Just got a rejection for Utah State Hospital. When the slightly less competitive sites reject you, it’s hard to stay positive about the more competitive ones you haven’t heard back from 🙁

I hear you. however, I have a friend who got a lot of rejections from sites he considered either middle range or safety programs that rejected him, then got interviews at sites he considered top tier or reach programs last year.

I've had many friends who were rejected from tier 3 sites, but received invitations from tier 1 sites. It's a mixed-bag , highly unpredictable process. One of the best and most consistent advice I've received from prior cohorts is to release control of the process. We've all come so far, and have so much to be proud of! 🙂

Don't be too discouraged, I just got the same email! Just wasn't meant to be, and definitely doesn't mean you won't be a great fit for more highly subscribed sites!

Thank you all for the encouragement and the reminder that we really can't know what's going to happen. A professor recently told us that a site that typically takes our students abruptly rejected everyone one year, much to everyone's confusion. It turned out that they needed more men in the program and so rejected the whole cohort of women. You never know what their true exclusion criteria is! As we say in Philly, trust the process. But good god it is not easy.

I understand and feel the same way. My supervisors keep trying to remind me that it really could come down to "goodness of fit" and to not despair too much. It is hard though.

So I just realized one of my sites is accredited on contingency (application due this week). Has anyone received advice on something like this? Should I still apply? Their brochure said I would still be able to apply to APA accredited postdocs.

I have one site like this on my list. I have been reassured that for all intents and purposes this means they are accredited, they just need some cohort data to become fully accredited. So it's basically Accredited on the contingency that cohorts finish and meet competency areas, I believe. Though maybe some of the DOTs or folks who work within sites can speak a little more to that?

APA Accredited on Contingency, is still APA Accredited. Apply!

I just received a rejection from Primary Children's Hospital, and then an interview offer from the same site (for the same track) an hour later. Has this happened to anyone?

Whhaaatt?! that's nutty. I say any interview offer is a good offer & the earlier rejection was probably made in error. Jump on it!

hang in there! I know this process sucks. I think we're all feeling it. But you only need a handful of interviews at places that appreciate YOU and that you're actually gonna like. Thinking good thoughts for all of us over the rest of the week

This happened to me, too. Just got the confirmation that the offer was legit. Wow, what a crazy ride that was!

As for my understanding after speaking with advisors on this, it still counts as APA accredited as for hours and going forward. Also, they usually get accreditation and they are still collecting data for APA full accreditation.

WOWWWWWWWWWW! I can't even believe this. So happy for you two though. I remember in undergrad I mistakenly got an e-mail that I was accepted to UPenn's Ph.D. program, which I knew was an error as I hadn't interviewed. But this is way more high stakes!
