Who is the best person to speak to if we have questions about our match results?

Potentially depends on the type(s) of questions. You could reach out to APPIC (their support email is on the website somewhere; I don't have it handy at the moment) if it's about the Match process. There may be a contact for NMS if you wonder if there was some type of mistake, although even in that situation, reaching out to APPIC first is probably the best bet.

If it's about the program you matched with, you can probably ask the training director of the program once the moratorium on contact is lifted later this morning.

I think last year people provided their personal stats which was helpful for me to not panic when I got so many fewer interviews than expected, so I'll do that:

When you're ready to hear this: Please know that this process and the match results are NOT a representation of you. They are some numbers that get pushed out of an algorithm... a robot's opinion, if you will. You are wise, talented, hardworking, and deserving. A number's game doesn't define you and does not begin to adequately represent the incredible work and dedication that has led you to this point in your doctoral journey. When you're ready, Phase II is on the horizon and it sounds like there will be plenty of incredible and competitive sites anxiously awaiting to hear from you - the talented, amazing clinical-scientists-to-be that you are.

Looks like there was an increase in the number of applicants (6%) and decrease in the number of sites (2%, although the latter were all non-accredited).

Who is the best person to speak to if we have questions about our match results?

During my year, one of my cohort mates didn’t match so they contacted Greg Keilin himself. She said he was really supportive (and didn’t giving away ranks/preferences of other sites), but essentially let her know she was ranked but others were ranked higher, which is why she didn’t match.

Matched at #1! It's still sinking in! I just want to say congrats to all of us for getting through this process. No one really prepares you for the stress and workload of this entire application process. We should all be proud of ourselves for making it this far! Sending everyone virtual hugs on this big day!

Speaking from the "other side": You probably won't do anything that would shock anyone but just saying you're excited and looking forward to the year is about all you need to do.

My TD basically called me screaming in excitement. That was interesting.

Lol same, just popped on here to see if anyone else was in the same boat. Technically they said between 11 - 1? I know my site has over 10 interns to call so I'm hoping they're just chatting with each one and taking their time getting to me...? Wonder when/if we send an email to the TD saying we're happy we matched? haha

My really good buddy (who is in the same lab and program as me) did not match and I'm feelin' for him today. I'm gonna just give him a bunch of space before I offer to dig in and help him figure out Phase 2.

There's no denying that it sucks to work hard and not receive the desired payoff. But remember that you're still clearing a major hurdle towards becoming an independent provider!

While matching to a top site probably increases your odds of having a good internship experience (clinical opportunities, geography, fit with supervisors, etc), it doesn't guarantee it since part of your experience will be what you make of it and I'm sure there's plenty one won't know about a site until they're onboard (good and bad).

I'm an ECP but not too far removed from internship and honestly, I rarely think about or speak of internship, especially since postdoc was ultimately more formative for my career.

Congrats to all who matched and keep up the grind and belief for those who will be going onto Phase 2!

This is absolutely a normative response to be happy to match but also disappointed about the outcome. Even if you are happy with the site, it feels not so fun to drop on your match list.

Every year, some people mention that they, at least in part, feel unhappy with their match results. And more often than not, it works out for the best and you will end up enjoying it (some even say that they end up believing they should have ranked the site higher). Even if you don’t, it’s one year and you will hopefully have useful experiences.

But ignore that part for now. Celebrate/mourn however you see fit. You earned it.

San Diego State University may not be accredited yet (this is their first year in the match), but it is an AMAZING training site for anyone interested in outpatient work who is open to non-accredited programs. In San Diego, I have heard more great things about their training from than any other site.

Yeah, I would think some sites may be inadvertently operating on their own time zone rather than converting to EST.

Although I'd say if you haven't heard by now (since it's after 1pm EST), it's fair to reach out if you'd like.

As others have said, the TD call is typically along the lines of, "we're super excited to have matched with you and are looking forward to a great year!" Fin.

There is no requirement of a certain percentage on internship. It depends on what kind of experience you have prior to that, and your postdoc. IF you have a strong neuro background in grad school, you can get by with a generalist internship with a neuro rotation. If you don't, you will not be very competitive for postdocs in neuro.

Mind you, there are some situations that require 50+% time in neuropsych on the site's end (e.g., AITCN membership). And it's possible some postdoc application reviewers may have a fairly entrenched or rigid view. I was in the same boat as you, years ago, and felt all the same feelings. Since then, I've worked at one site that passed on me and now am in a leadership position in another one that passed on me. Don't think this is the end of the story! It's just the beginning.

Thank you for this. I matched at my 7th out of 8 sites and, while I am very thankful to have matched at a neuropsychology program, I am feeling disappointed. It has been particularly confusing/hard since I had (what I thought) were great interviews at a couple of my top sites.

Same boat here - I matched at my 5th out of 8 sites. I'm very happy because the training I will be getting is exactly what I both want and need in a career. But I still am left a little bummed that I didn't get into my top 2, especially since I felt as though my interviews were incredibly strong there. My number 3-4 were a site that I felt equal about as my 5th (where I matched), but were slightly preferable due to location. It's a weird mix of feelings, but I'm slowly becoming more and more excited for where I did match, and the others are starting to fizzle out.

I was initially disappointed and confused because I thought my interviews at sites 1 and 2 were great, and I even got responses to my thank you emails from them remarking that I "would be a great fit" there. However, upon reflection, I am extremely grateful to have matched with my #3 -- it's a great fit for my training goals and the staff is incredibly warm and knowledgable.
