Applicant Support Group Thread

Are a lot of invites sent on 11/1 or is it merely when MSPE's are sent out? Looking at last year's official interview thread, there didn't seem to be a huge influx of invites on Monday, more like a general increase in invites throughout the week...

Yeah I doubt its a massive influx on 11/1. They get them on 11/1, but if they bothered to wait for the MSPE to invite you for interview then they probably want to actually read them in the context of the rest of your application - that takes time.

I have a feeling its just a slow flow over the following weeks as schools wade through applications + MSPE and start making their final decisions to fill their spots.

Guess that makes 5 of us

Make that six! I wish they would have put it in the subject line of their email though. The "Maricopa Medical Center" subject line made me think I was getting an interview for a minute.

They were probably too distraught from their "painful" decision to remember to change the title.

I know it's only been 2 days since the MSPE release, but compared to past years' invitation threads, it appears like the invites are a little slow this year...but hopefully things will pick-up in the next few days!:xf:

Got rejected from my top choice program today....sorta knew it was a long shot but still that stings!! 👎

I see that some people have gotten rejections from Oregon - how are they coming? Emails through ERAS or to each individual?

It's the last school I haven't heard from and it was my first choice when I was doing my first EM rotation way back in April. I guess the good thing about not hearing from them is that it's made me take a much closer look at every program that I applied to and there are several I find myself liking much more than Oregon.

If its any help, I actually got an email through ERAS yesterday from Oregon, telling me I was on the waiting list.

Got an invite from OHSU early in the week via ERAS... only offered 2 dates

I too am on the wait list for Oregon. Bust.

It's not looking too good for me at my other top 3 either. Oh well, shoot for the stars, right? 🙂

It seems to be getting late in the interview invite season. Should I assume that I will either be waitlisted or rejected by the places that I have not yet heard back from?

I'm wondering the same thing...I'm just hoping that I'm in the pile that will get an invite once some people cancel and spots open up?

So I am clearly depressed. Idk if its because winter is here and it is SAD or if its because I've been denied from two DO schools already, one didn't even invite me to fill out their secondary. I'm bumming, anyone else in my boat that can relate to my situation? I feel demoralized in so many ways.

yes, i got rejected from one or two do programs yet i got a umass interview. Ive since withdrawn from the AOA match. those do programs are really closed off if you dont rotate there because theyre soo small. i mean a class size of 4? and they only interview 40 people. the odds are just bad.
Itd be worse if you were in psych, only 10 programs in the country? come on. are you purely going AOA or are you trying your luck in the acgme match too.

Are you talking about the match? Or applying to medical school?

How many programs are you guys waiting to hear back from? I've not heard a peep out of 27 of them.

I seriously doubt I'll be getting any late-season interviews from a lot of them...what are they waiting for??

In the same scenario here. We've likely gotten waitlisted at many of them.

Just one - but it was my top choice this time last year. Funny but I'm just thinking of withdrawing at this point. I'm happy with the interviews I've gotten and don't know if I'd go even if it was an interview invite (pretty sure a rejection is more likely at this point.)

Do you have programs that have sent out rejection letters to other people but not to you? I've got five like that (vandy used to be one of those).

I wrote to ask if that means I'm waitlisted, but no response.

I've actually only got 1 or 2 where others have been rejected, and those that have only have one or two people on their list on SDN. Guess i'll just keep waiting like the rest of everyone, but i figure SURELY they can't still be going through applications, it would at least be nice to be update/kept in the loop...i haven't heard anything for almost a week now!

My thoughts exactly, I'm just counting everybody I haven't heard back from as a rejection.

But i got a phone call today though from a program that still hasn't decided what days they plan on interviewing their candidates. They'll keep calling every Friday to ask if I have a random day the next week free. I'm not on the waiting list, that's just what they're doing with their all their candidates this year.

Ha! Same thing happened with me and metropolitan! Crazy, no?

I called Duke to check on my application and the coordinator said that she'd check on my status, but at this point it... pause... oh! she says... actually.... the program director HASN"T reviewed your app yet. she'll look at it by next weekn. 😱😱😱 SO I guess that means that there is a very small number of places that are still looking. Even so, whoever I haven't heard from yet I'm not holding my breath for. I did just get a UMASS invite the day before thanksgiving, tho. Who knows 🙂 May still be hope for a few spots....

I can vouch for the coordinator - honestly, she is one of my most favorite people in the whole world. There are a lot of politicians in the residency biz (or used car salesmen, to be lower), but she's not one of them.

Yeah that day before Thanksgiving invite was great from the school I got it from. Sent so late that the date won't be confirmed until Monday (hopefully!).

Apollyon,
I believe her and she was very nice. I was just illustrating that not hearing from a place doesn't necessarily equal rejection, that you can have applied on day 2 of the cycle and still have things in the works.... it's awfully crowded this year, no?
I am disappointed though, because I am en route to North Carolina to another spot before hearing back and may not be able to afford another trip if I get the interview there. Sigh. Here's hoping an e-mail comes tomorrow??? 🙂

Curiosity is killing me, did you hear back? I was hoping you'd hear and be able to interview while you were in NC.

Hey just wanted to say I just got 2 interviews last week at places I had given up on but called and emailed to express interest. So, I guess that does help.

I did hear back! 😀 And I got an interview!!! I have to fly back for it, which makes my travel plans severely complicated (more so than they are already --is everybody else beyond broke?!), but I'm going to happily make the trek thanks to a call to my friendly neighborhood financial aid lady. I just couldn't pass this one up...

Awesome!

I'm not too broke yet. I've only had to buy 7 legs worth of plane tickets (hope that makes sense - going out in two big loops without going home in between). I think that's where I've saved a lot of money. Plus luckily not many hotel rooms.

BTW, hotel.com rocks! Staying in a 4 star tonight for $55 - free breakfast, evening wine and cheese and cookies and milk at night!

Milk and cookies ftw! Priceline is also really good for cheap hotels and cars. Apparently I'm interviewing at broke programs cause only 2 of my 12 are paying for my hotel rooms.
