i have no idea, but i'd guess that ohio applicants are in a much better position than most others. being from ca simply sucks when it comes to med school. half of them are out of most people's reach and one of them is for bible-worshippers.

TX is cool, we have our own system which is pretty insulted since its not a part of AMCAS (except for Baylor)

Overall for instate admissions west virginia had the highest percentage at 52.4%. Granted only 250 people applied, but 130 of them got in instate.

Illinois has LOTS of med schools most of which give preference to instaters 🙂

SIU, UIC, Rush, Finch, Pritzker, Loyola

I'd definitely have to say Texas. Two top-20 in-state schools with jack for tuition??? That is sweeeeet. I wish I was a Texas resident!

California has three top schools but it's hard as hell to get into them! I doubt Texas is as tough, but they definitely have very good applicants so it is probably pretty competitive as well.

What are you, crazy?? Florida is one of the tougher states to get into med school.

Did you see the avg GPAs of UF and USF? They are higher than most of the state schools around the country except california. Thank god they opened up FSU recently. But that didn't really help 'cause U of Miami is giving away 35 or so spots to out-of-staters now.

A Florida applicant, I'd say Florida kind of gets the short end of the stick. We are one of the largest states in terms of numbers of applicants yet we only have 4 medical schools and 1 DO school. You go to CA or NY where the applicant numbers are also high and there's a whole lot more than 5 schools to pick from. Granted, two of our FL schools only take FL residents, but I still think we're at a slight disadvantage here.

Ohio is great!

We have a nice range of schools in terms of competitiveness.

Can't complain about having, what, 7 med schools in our state.

the only problem with being in ohio is that our wonderful (read: crappy) state govt keeps slashing our educational support, which has driven all of our schools to accept more out-of-state students the last few years to make up for lack of state funds by raping students with that out-of state tuition racket.

if you really want the easiest, you should look in the MSAR for stats on schools like north dakota and south dakota (for nd, MSAR says that 131 of 142-92%- in-state applicants get interviews!!). also, as for 'normal' states, i'd say texas, maybe new york as far as variety, etc.
