Hi everybody,

I am finishing up my application and I was wondering if someone could help me with some questions that I have.

1) When I enter the classes that I have taken in the summer semester of certain school year, the summer session appears to be before the fall semester of that year.For example, the summer semester of 2004 stands before the fall semester of 2004. But this semester is on my transcript after the spring,at the end of the school year. So, I am wondering if the summer classes are supposed to be listed under the following school year? This seems wrong because we are supposed to enter it as appears on the transcript.What did you guys do? So far I am just going by the transcript.


2) When they say the "course number", they consider the number and the prefix of the course? For example: CHEM 101?

I know...its stupid to have such questions, as a premed I would need to know at least how to fill out an application. I am just afraid that I do not make any mistakes...so I am reading into questions too much. Thank you for the feedback.

Yes, thats correct.

I don't believe so for AP. If I recall correctly, AP gets you out of taking a class in college, but doesn't give you credit for it. Also, you do list classes you'll be taking the next semester. There is a way to indicate that they are future courses when you enter them.

Um, I'm not sure I understand this part. And which semester is "this semester," did you just complete a summer session?

summers have to go on under the next classification. For example, the summer after your freshman year should go in as sophomore. This will fix your chronological issue.

Thanks, I figured that would resolve the problem of chronology.I was not sure what to do about it since on the school transripts the summers are under the previous school year.But this makes sense, thats what I am going to do! Thanks alot 🙂

Yes, you need to enter all classes you have ever taken. There are specific instruction about the AP clasiffication.Its under the help section.

If your AP courses are listed in your transcript, enter them as they appear in your transcript. Your college may be different than mine, but AP scores of 4 or more counted for credit in courses, and AP scores of 3 let you skip the course.

For instance, in my case, I had a 5 on AP Calc AB. On my transcript, this appears as "Calc I" transfer credits to my college, with a special note in the "grade" column signifying AP credit. On AMCAS, I called it "Calc I," used the summer 2002 semester (I think...), and clicked the "AP" button. No changes made post-submission...

I am not sure that the course number includes the prefix see below:

Course Number/Course Name
"Enter the exact course name in English and the exact course number in the designated fields. If the exact course name does not fit, enter a logical abbreviation. This information is critical for AMCAS to verify each course on the official transcript and to the medical school's evaluation of your application. If a course number does not fit in the space provided, include the last eight digits." AMCAS 2007 Instruction Manual

I had the same question about the course number. Here is a sample verified AMCAS Application http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/advisors/2x_verified_app.pdf

This is available to college advisors and clearly on this sample the person has included the dept code under "course number" e.g. 'Bio114' rather than just '114' In the end, this makes sense because AMCAS would need to know the exact course designation to look something up as many departments at a university have a "101" course number.

I just looked this up. AP courses get entered under your freshman year if taken while in highschool. no grade is needed... only how many credits were received from your college. if you want to check for yourself do a search in the 70 some page amcas student manual that is online. 🙂
