Hi everyone,

So I have come to the conclusion that I will not get accepted to PT school this cycle, so I have already taken steps to improve my application. As of now, I am completing my final prerequisites and retaking my only C class.

My question is, what kind of job should I be pursuing while taking classes that can both improve my application to PT school and be relevant to my Exercise Science degree?

If you are or were in a similar situation as me, what kind of job did you have? and generally, how did you bounce back and improve your PT school application after not getting in your first time applying?

Thanks

P.S. Here are my stats:

cGPA: 3.35
pGPA: 3.2
GRE: 156V, 151Q, 4.0W
Observation Hours: 200+ at three different facilities (mainly outpatient pt)

As far as it being relevant to exercise science, that's a pretty tricky one, you'd just have to look and see what's out there. There is always being a PT tech obviously, but those jobs generally don't pay much above min. wage, and don't have a huge impact on your getting into PT school as far as I can tell.

There have been many threads on how to strengthen an app and be a good re-applicant...there have been 3 pretty good ones on here in just the last couple weeks...as the acceptance cycle is getting closer to it's close there are a lot of people in the same boat as you...I would search the forum and read up on all the various advice that's been given already.

Obviously the biggest thing you need to improve about your app is your pre-req GPA. I would calculate what you would have to do to get it to >3.6

I was a personal trainer the year I reapplied. It afforded me a ton of flexibility because I could schedule my clients around whenever I had classes. Also, most people want to train in the very early mornings and in the evenings, so that left the main part of my day completely free to make main class times. Sad the say, the pay for being a personal trainer per hour is often higher than you will make as a PT after graduating (nuts!). I also took on some tutoring jobs (mostly high schoolers and community college kids in math and science)....also very good money. On the downside, both of these jobs are more part time setups with no benefits. So depending on your situation, they might not be the best fit for you. I wouldn't worry about what you do, as long as you are able to put enough time into the reapplication part.
