All,

Due to a mishap on one of my Professor for LOR, I wasn't able to get my application out to SUNY and NECO until 1/15. While the absolute deadline isn't until March, I was curious if anyone know if this is too late to get an interview? I did some search and wasn't sure if SUNY or NECO do interviews in batches or individually?

Your help is appreciated. Thanks,
Chris

That's hard to say. I would think that it depends on your file (OAT scores, GPA, EC, etc.). As you probably know, SUNY and NECO both have rolling admissions meaning that applications are processed in the order in which they were received. So, of course, the earlier you apply the better your chances are of getting an interview invite. According to the Facebook group for SUNY's c/o 2013, it looks like 30 or so people have accepted a seat out of the 76 they have, so they are probably getting pickier this late into the season. NECO has more seats (~115) and I've heard of people getting interviews who apply as late as February. Your chances of getting an interview at NECO are much higher!

In regards to interviews done in batches, do you mean if applicants are interviewed in a group or one-on-one or do you mean if applicants are interviewed in clusters? I did not apply to NECO so i can't say, but if you look under the Interview Feedback section, it looks like interviews are done one-on-one by 1-2 faculty. For SUNY you are typically interviewed one-on-one by a panel of 3 faculty members/students (one is usually Dr. Johnston unless he is out of town). During an interview day, they only interview 4 applicants in the morning.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks! I really appreciate your feedback.

I have about 2 years of working experience at an optometry with a 3.2 GPA and 360 OAT. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both schools. =)

As for the interview in batches question, I was curious if SUNY or NECO conduct in clusters (multiple students all in one day). And if so, if anyone knew of upcoming interview dates so I can watch my mailbox more closely.

Did the SUNY interview come via e-mail/mail/phone?

Thanks again!
Chris

Your GPA might be a little on the low end for SUNY (but it's above a 3.0 so I think you should be okay) but your OATs are great! I still say you have good chance at NECO.

SUNY relies on snail mail so it can take up to a month to hear anything from them after you submit your application 👎. Maybe you'd be better off trying to call Admissions and asking the status of your app. I don't think they have "big" interview dates where they mass interview everyone. Like I said before, they only seem to interview 4 applicants a day. They give you the next the available date that has an opening.

SUNY interviews 4 students per day but only 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). Your interview is individual but all four students are there at the same time.

Thank you guys. I really appreciate everyone's feedback.
