So I want to apply for the Pharmacy program at Midwestern. Currently I'm doing my pre-pharmacy work at Glendale CC. I have a 3.0 GPA but i still have to take my Second semester of Gen chem and Organic and physics. Right now i Have an A in my first semester of Gen Chem and I'm pretty sure ill get A's in Organic and next semester in Gen Chem. And I'm planning to take Organic during the summer of 2011 along with a retake of Anatomy in which i got a C.
So my question is should i take the PCAT in January 2011 ? If I do i will probably end up retaking it as soon as it becomes available again in June 2011.
When is the best time to start my pharmcas application if i want to show the June PCAT score ?
LOR's would be needed by when?
Pharmacy Experience would hopefully be sit ins at local pharmacies.
PS would be proof read by idk... who should i ask to do it?
EC volunteer 6 to 8 hours a week giving free bible studies. Tutor kids in math and history as well as English as a second language.
So my big dilemma is that by June i would be in the beginning of my Organic Chem class which ends towards the end of July, and i wouldn't be finished with my prereqs until December 2011. is that a problem with the application process?

My experience: I took the January 2010 PCAT with only finishing general chem, no organic chem - and I did very poorly. Took it again in August after having both semesters of o chem, and my chemistry score went from 43 to 91.
That said, taking it in January without even having both semesters of general Chem is a waste of time and money, in my opinion.
Besides chemistry, what about your other subjects? Having calculus is a must, in my opinion, as is a year of general bio.

Taking it in June while still having almost no organic would help some, but not much. You may end up needing to take it in August, or even October, after being enrolled in o chem 2.

As far as PharmCAS goes, I would recommend getting started on that as early as it becomes available. You don't need to have your PCAT scores in to submit your PharmCAS application.

As Mandydp6 says, it could be a waste of your time to try if you haven't finished calc and had any Orgo. You are aware that Organic Chem and Gen Chem are REALLY different, yes?
That said, I took the PCAT in Aug and screwed the pooch as far as QA and Chem went, as I was trying the same thing as you. I got a good composite, but bad scores in those areas, and ended up taking it again in Oct. But I am not so hot in either QA or CHem anyway, so I may not be the best guide:laugh: A lot of folks consider their first PCAT sort of a warm up anyway, which can be handy if you can afford it.
Anyway, start your PharmCas as soon as you have time. There doesnt seem to be a time limit on your app as long as you start after the cycle opens and finish before it closes. My LOR took much longer to get than I expected, so give your folks a lot of time to do it. Finishing your prereqs right before the PS1 years starts doesn't seem to be a problem. Good Luck !

Yea I Have my General Bio Done and got an A and a C and calculus is also done with a B. I guess ill take the PCAT in august and just study Hard. No Physics though.
Also is it a bad idea to submit my transcripts to pharmcas because earlier in my college career i didn't take things serious so i have a couple W's and an F in gen chem, which i am currently getting an A in the retake, the F came from Phoenix College and the A im getting is at GCC, but i allso took my bio class in PC and got an A, so does this mean i have to send both transcripts? And how bad does that look? im sure ill get A's like i said before in the remaining classes so my GPA WILL improve.

You must send ALL your transcripts. and yes, they will factor the W and the F into your GPA. PharmCAS leaves nothing out...even if you have retaken it. Kind of stinks.

So should i start the Pharmcas now or should i wait till the end of this semester to show the A im getting? or does pharmcas automatically update my transcripts or do i have to send them again after each semester?

You can't establish a pharmCAS account for fall 2012 matriculation until this cycle closes. They usually open their applications for the new cycle in June.

As mentioned, you have to send all transcripts, regardless of what grade you earned.

A little early don't you think?😕 Work on getting your requirements together but you can't start the application for 2012. Once PharmCAS reopens next June (2011), then you can start on the app.
