Mods, please forgive me for posting this here - it would have been more appropriate for Step 3 thread, but Step 3 thread is not anywhere near as popular as this one (or Step 1 one, for that matter), so I am posting here in the hope to get a quicker response.

I am an FMG, just applying to sit Step 3 right now. Since I have not done any PG training in the US, my application is limited to the number of states that allow Step 3 without any previous US PG experience.

Having had a look at the state med boards' websites, I am thinking of applying either through NY or CT. Those of you who have had experience applying for Step 3 through these states (or any other states, if you have had a particularly good or bad experience you want to share) - I would love to hear from you! How long did the application process take?

The reason I need to know is because I would ideally like to take Step 3 in Dec, around Xmas time. This is when I am going to be in the States. If I cannot do it then, it will probably will have to be next summer or even next winter, as I will have a baby in spring and have other things to worry about other than Step 3. Since my eligibility period would start immediately from the moment they accept the application, I would like to hear whether I could reasonably hope that my application will be processed by November, so that I could book the testing dates and do some UW qs.

Now, I do have 6 years to complete Step 3, since I only took the first of the Steps in Dec last year. I also DON'T NEED to complete Step 3 to enter residency - I passed Step 1 (238/99), Step 2 CK (257/99) and Step 2 CS all on the first attempt, so there are no red flags from that point of view. BUT, I would like to get them all (ALLL) out of the way sooner rather than later, and having just sat Step 2 CK&CS, now seems a good time.

I will risk bringing the mods' wrath on to my head and say,

"BUMP"

IIRC, I received my orange permit in the mail a few days after I applied for Step 3; I then scheduled my test for a few weeks after THAT.
