I will be applying nice and early in June
1) Can I apply to multiple branches? Are there any drawbacks in doing so?
2) Do all the services offer 3 yr. scholarships for pre-dental students applying to dental school?

thanks

1a) yes
1b) Drawbacks are that you may not get a recruiter working so hard to get your packet together when they find out you are looking at other branches. Particularly if they already have several other individuals they are going to put through for the 3 yr scholarship (those guys will fill their quota). They will find out if you are applying with other branches, because when it comes time to do your physical - you will do it through one of the branches. The other ones will have to contact them to get a copy.

1c) The application is a long drawn out process and a pain in the ass. I would make sure you know which branch you want to apply to and only apply to one. It takes months of filling out paperwork/waiting. I would not suggest applying to more than one branch.

Thanks for the quick reply guys! I got another question

3) are there more 3 yr or 4 yr scholarships available in the AF/Navy/Army and which one (3 or 4 year) is more competitive to get?

thanks

Army has the most, and is the least competitive. Air Force has the least and is the most competitive. Choose the service that fits your personality best. Just apply for the 4 year, and if you qualify but aren't selected you will be automatically considered for the 3 year.

Army has about 80 4 yr HPSP and 50 3 yr HPSP each year. 1 and 2 yr HPSP can be made available if people are intersted.

Do you know how many spots the Air Force has for 4 year and 3 year scholarships?

It varies from year to year. Last year we only had 5 4-year scholarships and 40+ 3-year scholarships. The numbers for this year aren't in concrete yet, but may be close to the same.

Is it true for all branches that if you don't get the 4 year they will consider you for the 3 year?
