Application Season Over! No Acceptance!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
sucks.... what were your stats?

Get ready for next season :luck:

your not going to be the only one, good luck i hope those 4 hold turn into acceptances

This sucks ass. Applied to 20 schools. Got 20 rejections (counting the 4 holds as rejections).

I cannot believe this.

I can't believe you've actually heard back from every school. You must have been complete in like July and didn't apply to any schools that wait until March to give you the news??? 🙁 Sorry dude. That does really really stink. 🙁

wow what a fast turnaround. care to share your stats?

I got a 30M (6VR, 12PS, 12BS).

quoted from another thread since people are very curious.
sorry to hear that buddy. this road sure ain't gonna be easy for any of us, but keep workin hard and prepare for next time if this is what you really wanna do and i'm sure you'll get in next time.

lol hey, i think god just smiled upon me, apparently a school for got to send me a secondary haha. interesting, but not amusing. in any case, i still have one school left. i love you guys.

I didn't even know that many schools send out rejections this early. It's only November.

szhao i know you're a happy camper but I don't think this is the time.

Just so I have some measurement for myself, what were your GPA's and did you have lots of Extracurrics??
Thanks

Damn... Sorry, buddy. 🙁

VR, eh?

I'm sorry to hear that buddy. It's really not the end of your chances, are you considering other options? D.O., post-bac?

I hate to say it, but that VR is holding you up. A bunch of DO schools have minimum scores these days too, and I hate to say but a 6 in any section would knock you out of those DO schools too.

good luck. I know quite well your pain.

I don't know if I agree with you here. He does have a thirty overall! I know however, that some schools do not take anything below a 7 in any section, regardless of overall performance.

Back4more, you should call the schools and ask for an exit interview or exit conference with someone on admissions. Ask them specifically about the barriers that prevented you from getting an interview or acceptance.
It may not be your numerical stats. Remember it is NOT all about numbers.

Once you find out a reason, work on it and apply again! Don't give up.
I have been rejected in three different rounds of applications (my fault really) because I didn't do my homework. Now, I am getting mad love and tons of interviews.

Remember to be proactive and NOT reactive. Ask someone for answers!

I am looking forward to hearing your success story!

GOOD LUCK..... and I sincerely mean that...

Sorry, dude. Damned VR. Maybe try taking the Mcats again?

Has to be the 6 in VR. Get that to at least an 8 and you'll have above a 30. Retake the MCAT and just do a verbal test every other day for two months and go over the test that you took the previous day, reading the passages over under 8 minutes while going over the answers that you got wrong and correct.

Keep working at it, you'll get it if you want it bad enough. :luck:

Application season over. Troll season not.

Come on, it's only mid-November and this guy, who claims to have a 30 MCAT and a degree from Berkeley, has heard from every single school he applied to??? Please! How many of you have even heard from HALF of the schools you have applied to???

Don't feed the troll.

um, the average MCAT many DO schools, at least at PCOM, is a 24.

maybe he's illiterate and his essays were garbage too. remember kids, it's all about the "3 R's"

Man, I never thought this could be a troll! You have a good point!

I hope you are not a troll, but if you are ....

Yeah. He better not be a troll!!! Otherwise, shame on him for being a Cal student and not get accepted anywhere.

i don't think he's a troll but he has expressed his creepy love for an SDNer and also voiced how he is addicted to sex.

So you think he HAS heard back from all 20 schools he applied to?

I only thought he was a troll for all of his annoying "I banged her and I banged her" comments, but I think it is pretty conceivable that a 6V, 12P, 12B Berkeley student would get rejected from 20 schools... 6 V is a huge red flag, and we don't know his GPA or which 20 schools are in question.

Right off the bat, this doesn't strike me as overwhelmingly Troll-like.

(I'm a Berkeley student with much higher than a 6V who's already been rejected from 6 in all, this year and last, with probably at least a few more on the way.)

What about the M in verbal? 🙁

^ I meant writing

I agree a 6V would kill any app. It's the time frame I have an issue with. Only mid-November and already rejected by every school he applied to - 20 schools???

um, the average MCAT many DO schools, at least at PCOM, is a 24.

I'm not going to argue this point because I don't have any numbers in front of me, but even if the average is a 24, it still breaks down to an 8 in each section. Even many DO schools would have a hard time getting over that 6 in VR.

I don't buy that, sorry. Several of my friends last year got in to D.O. schools with very low verbal scores...one in particular got into every D.O. school he applied to with a 4 in verbal (the other sections were approx.10s), and also a Carribean school.

That's just more SDN bull**** to scare people. Check up on the newest MSAR. For the schools I cared to look up on:

UNC: 6VR
Maryland: 6VR
Florida: 6VR
Miami: 5VR
Michigan: 6VR
FSU: 4VR (four)
USF: 6VR
Rosalind Franklin: 3VR (yes, three)
etc

I don't know... Maybe. At this point in the season I have 3 rejections and 1 hold. There are definitely people on Takingbaksunday's thread that have more rejections than that. 16 is a bit high, though, yeah. Unclear.

16 rejections by nov.15 = impossible. furthermore, notification by all 20 schools = impossible.

So you think he HAS heard back from all 20 schools he applied to?

i'm just sayin he has a big post record and hasn't gotten caught for trolling up til now.. he definitely has had some left field comments in the past, but nothing typical trolls on this forum have said. so i guess i don't really know.

wow! i'd love to be the patient of a doctor who either:
a). scores a 4 in verbal due to his striking intellectual capacity and/or critical reading skills. come on now, doctors need not read nor think!
b). scores a 4 in verbal because he didn't care enough to adequately prepare for such an important exam.

don't mind me, i'm a bitter prick and reading things like this really amaze me.

it is definitely possible to have heard from 20 schools .. depends on which schools you applied to 🙂 trust me, it is possible 🙂

Depends, really. Some people want to be doctors because they love science and problem diagnosis and solving. Others don't care about Monks, Zebra Fish, Video Art, American Sign Language, etc. I know I found myself not giving a **** during VR because I don't care for it. I didn't get a 4 though...

I just want a doctor that passes the board exams from an accredited US medical school and residency. I couldn't care less about my doctor's MCAT score on the topics of gravity, redox reactions, monks, diels alder, and zebra fish. Know what I'm saying?

ooops sorry 😀

😀 I'd love to be the patient of a doctor who doesn't know how to use a computer in this day and age. j/k

A 4 or a 6 is very low and realistically requires a retake. But assuming arguendo that someone with a low score manages to become a doctor, land a residency and so on, the verbal reasoning grade no longer matters. You usually don't have the luxury of knowing your doctor's credentials beyond what he hangs up on his wall, and in all probability you have already been treated by someone in your life who has blemishes in his past record. I mean, half of all med school grads will have been in the bottom half of their med school class, and the number is even higher when you are seeing a nonspecialist.

FWIW, it does seem awfully early for the OP to have heard back from so many schools. But if true, it's time to identify all shortcomings and start fixing them for a future cycle.

OUCH.

Keep on fighting. I know lots of people who didn't get anywhere the first time but ended up getting accepted by very good schools on the second time round. BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!!

PLus you still have waitlists those could = acceptacnes.

Its your verbal score. A lot computer programs are just throwing you out because schools assume you can't speak English. Those people that got accepted to schools with a 4 or 6 on VR probably learned English in only the last 2 years, applied with some kind of disadvantage status or more dubiously, URM (i.e. Latin American immigrant who only learned English in the last 4 years or so of college).

Get the VR up, apply again and you will be fine. Also, in the meantime, try and do something like the one-year NIH fellowship (that really gets a school's attention).

It might be the verbal, or it could be multifactorial. If possible, after interview season, OP should try and get an appointment with one of the schools admissions people to see what he could do to improve for next cycle. You don't want to assume it's the MCAT and next year find out that adcoms had an issue with that AND something else you didn't address.

A VR score of 3 and 4 is pretty freakin' low. I'm pretty sure you could just bubble in "A" for every answer and get a 3 or 4.
