Hola antes medico estudiantes!

I'm wondering if the application stress ever goes away before acceptance time. With my stats (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...-and-medical-school-application-list.1083248/) (link if you're curious) I'm nail biting as to where I should apply, where I'll get in, etc. It's really running me into the ground. I thought everybody was supposed to be excited at this stage but I actually feel like throwing up, like on a 24/7 basis! 😀

Shotgun or lethal injection?

Your level of stress is largely dependent upon you. You may have some trouble with no shadowing, but having been a CNA for 5 yeas, that may be overlooked so long as you had exposure to physicians within a variety of specialties. What are your ECs like?

I'm wondering if I have a good spread of schools for my application. I have a 3.85 cGPA and a 29 on the MCAT. I have my CNA license and I've been doing clinical work for five years. I have no research experience and I haven't shadowed. That's about as specific as I feel comfortable getting. They're listed in no particular order, except that the University of Colorado is my first choice. For personal reasons, I would be willing to give a kidney to go there. So here it is, tell me what y'all think!
I think you'll need to be sure to apply to schools that won't screen you out, due to your MCAT. DO is much more likely. You should also show some other aspects about what makes you unique and certainly having NO research or shadowing won't cut it. Are you sure you don't want to wait a year, work on an MCAT retake and get some volunteering/shadowing? Your CNA may be fine w/out shadowing, but I hope you have other components that really shine. This is excellent advice and I've been giving some serious thought to taking a year extra. But I came to the conclusion that I'm willing to try applying this year. The worst that can happen is that I don't get in and I'm given the extra time to do just like you said. Thank you for the advice though (I was thinking along the exact same lines)!

I've delivered over 10,000 URM babies while doing one fingered push ups in my wheelchair because I was left a paraplegic by fighting off 7 hungry lions from eating children in southern Uganda. I've also published quite a bit on bathroom stall walls and the random section of certain internet image boards...

See? You'll have some great stories for the interviews. The trick will be to get there. Being IS should help, but seriously look into some DO schools. That's where you'd be much more successful. Plus, they don't care as much about about research (I think).

What do you mean by EC's? Like, volunteer experience?

You haven't even experienced the joy of waiting for the Inbox(1) in the hopes of an interview invite. Just wait til you're at the end of May and only have a few waitlists. Then you'll know what application stress is
