I am a grad student from Canada and I am beginning to realize that I don't have a clue about the "rolling bases" of US application process. If I can get some clarification how to plan my application submission timeline, it would be greatly appreciated.

First issue is with submitting to AMCAS - when is it best to submit it? I was planning to finish the application by end of July. Or should I aim to finish earlier?

2nd issue is with 2ndary applications - is it best to submit the 2ndary application as soon as I submit my application to AMCAS and get an email from the school? I was thinking that I can get those done about 1month before the respective deadlines.

Thanks.

You should submit the AMCAS as soon as is reasonably possible. I'd shoot for early July, if you can. Verification time slows waaaay down in July, which will delay your receiving secondaries. As for those, I'd also shoot to turn them around ASAP (<24 hours is ideal, a week at most). People whose files are complete (including Secondary and LOR's) will be considered first for interviews and, subsequently, admission. The earlier, the better. You're already flirting with being "late" in the process, so I'd do my best to step it up. Good luck!

Can I just add...early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early early as you possibly can, without compromising quality. Hopefully that was annoying enough to get the point across. I got my secondaries in about 1 month before deadlines, giving me spring interviews for most of my schools (January-March). My interviewers said "You have an awesome application, but you are kind of on the later side. What happened? Didn't people tell you to apply early?"

So...you get the point. I don't think I need to say that word again. 😀

Thanks. I will definitely get on top of the application now and submit it asap.
