Say thank you in a unique way. Once someone has agreed to write or has submitted, your recommendation, do something nice for them. Send a memorable note, maybe even a small gift (a bottle of wine or some candy is nice, if you know they partake) or offer to take them to lunch. Don't feel the need to go overboard with a high-value item, but expressing your appreciation through a kind note or a small token is a common courtesy.
