Looks like last year was down with US/Canadian seniors, bouncing back some this year.

(Excel)

2014: 1,070
2015: 901 (lowest in past 15 years)
2016: 1,049

(Highest was in 2009: 1,435)

Meaningless ebb and flow?

Well with more and more medical students graduating every single year the number had to go up eventually. Its more telling to look at the percentage of all graduating students applying rads. I believe the average is 5.5% with a peak of 7% in 2009 (most competitive year).

Most likely, last year will end up being the lowest point of competitiveness for the next 10 years. Even if Rads implodes all these new med school grads gotta go SOMEWHERE.

There are still less applicants than the number of positions available. Spots have increased while applicants have decreased.

Why are you making the switch to IM? Probably the first time I've heard that.
