Hi Everyone,

So, I submitted by AMCAS to 3 schools last June for verification; however, due to COVID-19, my MCAT exam kept getting cancelled and so I had to ultimately scrap the whole app process all together. The 3 schools I applied to were low- yield oos schools.

Anyways, I am getting ready to apply this cycle and was wondering if I will be considered a re-applicant to all the schools I will be applying to, or only the 3 (if I add them to my list again)? Do you think I need to change up my personal statement/ Activities again (like how some adcoms recommend for re applicants?)

Also has a date been determined when primary applications will be pushed to schools this year?

Thanks

Only the 3. You never applied to any other school, so you are not a reapplicant to them!!! 🙂

AMCAS hasn't published the date yet, but it will be late June, unless they push it like they did last year to mid-July, but, the way things are opening up now, I wouldn't bet on that.

Thanks for your help, Goro. Last cycle, I was also conditionally accepted to a DO school without an MCAT score, but obviously since I wasn't able to take the exam, I couldn't take the acceptance.

If I apply DO this cycle, do you suggest i basically not apply again to the school that accepted me this past cycle (w/out an MCAT score). I hope I am still in the running for DO schools at large.

Thanks Gonnif. Do you think I need to change up my personal statement/ Activities again (like how some adcoms recommend for traditional re applicants?)

Also, do you think that AMCAS application will be sent to school in mid July like last cycle, or will it be end of June like normal?

The bias against reapplicants is mostly SDN hype. Med schools are not like jealous dates.

Anyone who sees the date of your MCAT will realize that you were not a viable candidate for the 2020-2021 cycle so the "why didn't he get in last time" thing will not apply at all!

This only applies to the three schools I applied to before, correct?

The other schools, which I will be applying to this cycle, won’t even know I was an applicant before right?

Any school can look at an applicant who is a year or more out of college and wonder why they didn't apply during senior year (if they had the MCAT done during or before spring of junior year) and wonder why they didn't go to school sooner. Doesn't matter if they are officially a reapplicant or not. It is human nature when you see someone with a 3.95/519 who looks like they should have gotten in on the first try to wonder "what's up with that?" Sometimes, an applicant will make it clear that they decided to sit on the MCAT score and pursue an opportunity of a lifetime before applying... sometime you are just left deciding whether they are worth interviewing to ask the question.
