I was hoping that some of you that have applied to Colorado would post your stats that you applied with. If you have received an interview that would be great also. I talked with Dr. Kluender at CU and he said my odds were not very good because it is simply so competitive. My stats are 21AA and 18 PAT and a GPA of 3.48 with science about the same. I know they are pretty good stats but I was hoping for a little student insight about whether applying is a complete waste of time. By the way I am out of state for Colorado. Thanks

game over...that's why he said the odds were against you...they like to take their own residents...i wouldn't apply unless i had over 20+ on all sections of the DAT and 3.5+ gpa (these are for non-residents)...and even then...i bet it would be hard to get in...do you really want to go to Colorado or something?? If you do you might as well give it a shot but if you're just applying there just cuz then forget it...save your money...

I applied to Colorado and am a California resident. I have good stats: 4.07/4.11 overall/science GPA (with +/-) and 23/20 DAT, but I'm still worried about even getting an interview because of all that I've heard about being out of state. Oh well, I'm a big outdoors person so I wanted to give it a try.
Good Luck!

You have a 4.07 GPA??? What is the scale? 5.0? I applied to CU last year and during my interview they said they admit approx 23 in state students and 16-17 WICHE students. He said they also admit 1, sometimes 2 out of state students. It is really hard to get that out of state spot. That said, Dr. Kluender is really nice and a great resource. He was very honest and open with me during my interview their last year. Consider him to be your best friend. I can't say enough good about him. If you have any other questions about the interview at CU, let me know. Best of luck in the app. process.

i think you are the ideal out-of-state applicant that they're looking for and i think you have a great shot 👍 ...tell me how it goes cuz i'm curious...

actually, with those stats, i think you can go anywhere that you want (depending on your extracurriculars and your interview of course...)

Nope, it's on a 4.0 scale but when addsas calculates it with +/- I have above a 4.0 because of the A+'s

thanks for the positive feedback, I do have good extracurriculars (I think), I'm starting to get nervous though because I have yet to receive any interview invites. I'm hoping that this is because all of the schools I applied to haven't really started the reviewing process yet. All of those east coast schools seem to be so much further ahead than the west coast ones. I will let you know what happens with Colorado. Good things, I hope!

I know Colorado started sending out interview invites because I got one. In my letter there were 3 dates which I could chose to attend. I believe they are in the process right now of sending interview invites. Good luck!!

I had a friend who is resident of colorado that applied last year with a 3.5 GPA/3.4 science and a 22 on his DAT....ya, he got the shaft....not even wait listed.

tough school to get in to

I think that colo. looks at alot more than just stats. A good friend of mine had about a 3.7 overal GPA and "only" got an 18 AA and he got accepted just last cycle. We are AZ, (so out of state) and he didn't even get WICHE. He said the interview went VERY well though. That is my #1 pick, but you guys are freaking me out with your insane GPA's and DAT scores. I hope that my assumption is right.

was there anything that your friend did that would make him stand out among other applicants? like did he take some time off to work? or did he go through some extreme hardship? just wondering...

I really want to attend Colorado, it is my number one choice.

When I interviewed with colorado many moons ago, I had a 3.8 Gpa and a 21 DAT and age 21. The interviewers told me straight up that I was too young. WICHE and all. Too bad for them b/c at age 25 I was a dentist.

I think that colo. is really looking for a older more mature applicant. I'm not saying that GUTTA is immature or anything, but my friend is 30 yrs old, has three kids, and ... I don't know, he said the interview went really well.

I know I've got a slim chance of getting into Colorado, but I'm going to chance it. 3.66 gpa 20 AA/22 TS/20 PAT. They are getting a NEW building this year. I've heard great things about the school. Colorado would be great.

Did someone say that they think Colorado favors older students? I'm 27, married, plus we're expecting.

Also, do they favor applicants from rural areas interested in rural dental programs?

any comments?

Being interetsed in practicing in a rural area would be an advantage if you want to practice in the state of CO. Since they are a state school, their number one goal is to produce excellent clinicians who will serve the people in CO. They are focused on clinical work and proud of it. I complimented them on their clinical work and I swear that was what got me accepted there (besides being an in-state app). And I think it helps to be mature no matter where you apply. Just remember maturity and age dont always go hand in hand.

I just recieved a secondary from CU. It was very breif. It asked for a couple of documents that will not be available for a couple of months like WICHE availability and certification. Does anyone know what these are or when we will recieve these.

It also stated: If we are able to give your application further condideration for an available position in the 2005 enering class, we will request an application processing fee, photograph, and a personall interview.

Yes - I got those papers as well last week. I filled them out and sent them back the next day. You will receive the WICHE documents sometime in October/November timeframe (that is if you participate in a WICHE state).

I got the same papers. It says I have to submit my Fall 2004 and Spring 2005 transcripts. What I think is confusing it that it says my application will recieve further review after these and other documents have been submitted. My spring 2005 transcripts aren't available until June 05 - are they not going to give my app further review until then?? Is this just a nice way of saying I'm rejected or am I reading this too literally? I need to call them I suppose.
