Hello everyone,

I am wondering whether or not I should wait to apply to DO schools this cycle or wait until next cycle to apply to both MD/DO schools?
I am an older student (27), and would begin medical school at 28-29 depending on when I apply. I will list my stats below. I mostly need advice between trying to get in this cycle or applying broadly with an early application next cycle. I finished a post-bacc in 2017, but had to delay my application due to family issues and my own health issues. Would schools look at that as a red flag? Also, I am registered for the September 14th MCAT and have been scoring around 506-509 on practice exams. Should I delay my application or wait until next cycle and apply early/broadly? Also is there anything that I can improve upon; more community service for example, extra upper level courses? Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thank you!

A September MCAT is too late for MD applications. Depending on your score you could apply to DO schools in October. What is your cGPA and sGPA including your post-bacc ? Where is your state of residence ?

Including my post-bacc my cGPA is 3.1 and sGPA 3.22. Overall there is an upward trend and my last 60 credits my sGPA is 3.7 My state of residence is Illinois

Your MCAT score will determine if it is realistic for you to apply to MD schools next year or whether DO is your most viable option. Post your score here in October.
