I have applied to 40 schools this year. While I got about 11 hold and rejections together. I am not sure if i will get any II this cycle as it is already thanksgiving. I am thinking to apply for MPH and most of their due dates are 12/01/2024. My question is, If I apply to same school, will the MPH app will be visible to MD app. Will it be considered as Oh, he already gave up and applying for MPH so lets give the II to someone else. I dont want to Jeopardize my MD app even if it has a thin chance.
Thanks for your reply.

MD and MPH programs are typically separate, and a MPH application will not jeopardize your MD application.

The more important question is what are you planning to do with your MPH degree in the future? It is unlikely to help your MD application next cycle (if you need to reapply) and will have additional financial and other opportunity costs. Not trying to dissuade you from pursuing a MPH, but make sure that your future career as a physician will actually benefit from it. Just my thoughts.

Completely separate offices and nothing is shared between them.

The MPH could help (you get some population health research experience, learn some study design and data analysis skills relevant to clinical epidemiology and/or clinical trials), could hurt (you do poorly in the courses), and gives you something to talk about when you reapply ("what are you doing this year?")

There are costs (tuition and living expenses) and there are opportunity costs (what you could be doing/earning if not in school). On the flip side, your loans don't come due (but continue to accrue interest).

There are people in just about every medical specialty who earned the MPH before med school, during medical school or after med school graduation. It can be a very helpful degree if you have an interest in populations as well as individuals. Even in caring for individuals, the science of behavior change, for example, and other public health-related areas of study can be useful.

I am genuinely interested in MPH. I was thinking to do it if I get MD and take a break and do it.

You may want to consider applying to dual degree programs then, that way it hopefully minimizes any breaks you may need to take.

Also while applying doesn't jeopardize it I don't know if an MPH would make your app stronger/be the best use of your time. Would recommend posting a WAMC so we can read into it.
