  1. Pre-Podiatry
Hey guys, here is my profile:

1330 GRE (600 verbal, 730 quant, 3.6 writ)
2.85 cum, 2.97 sci (including post-bac), strong upward grade trend
500+ hours of patient care as physical therapy tech
shadowing with 3 podiatrists
pre health club
varsity athlete

The question is, I'm in a masters program designed for a second chance at pre-med etc. Should I apply now or wait for graduate grades to come in? I'm a little worried that by January spots will be somewhat scarce

- Your GPA is low for Pod... I am not sure how the GRE fairs. Honestly, you should just call the schools you are thinking about applying to and ask first. They will give you the best/connected advice

I'm not trying to start an MCAT vs. DAT debate but you would probably have to take the MCAT to give yourself the best chance since the only school that accepts the GRE is Temple...and from what i've read on here, a higher than average MCAT score can offset a lower GPA and vice versa. How is the grad program going? I would imagine that you could apply after the first semester grades are posted at the end of December and still be relatively early for matriculating in 2011...just a thought, best of luck!🙂

Given that you took the GRE and have 500+ hours as a PT tech are you sure you want to go into podiatry? Its quite different than physical therapy. If you got your GPA up just a little bit you might be able to get some PT interviews.

Remember
PT = 3 years
Podiatry = 7 years
Think about it.

Thanks everyone! The plan is now to get in quite a bit more podiatry shadowing under my belt, get great grades in Biochem, Neurobio, and submit in January. If I don't make it in, I'll apply to maybe Ohio and Barry with an MCAT pending in February. I need to take a look at the MCAT registration cut-offs.

If nothing else, I'm prepared to take the MCAT spring semester and apply to five or so schools as soon as AACPMAS rolls over in the summer.

Grad school is going pretty well, thanks. I'm in Biochem, graduate A & P, graduate Neurobiology. My tests back so far are B+, A, and B+, but I think the next round should go better and I believe I can finish the semester with better than a 3.4.

Does anyone know how the competitiveness of one's undergraduate institution (or graduate for that matter) factor in to a decision? I think the last ranking I saw for my undergrad school was 28th, while my grad school has placed significantly lower as of late.
