i'm currently a junior and my cum gpa is a 3.11. i'm currenlty studying for the dat and will take in in september. now if i apply this june, is it ok if my dat will be sent a few months later? will that decrease my chances of getting in? if i apply this year, i'll probably get into one of the eastcoast schools (i'm from cali) which are so far away....

on the other hand, if i apply next year, i will be more confident since i have had more classes taken and a higher gpa (hopefully), which will maybe get me in a cali school. however, i would have to take a year off if i do that.

so, what should i do?

oh and by the way, i'm also doing research, have had 60 hrs of dental volunteering, and studied abroad in england this summer.

If you send in your AADSAS application this June 2005 and send in your official DAT scores in September 2005, you would be fine. It is not late at all. However, if you send your DAT scores in before August then it will be even better.

agree with Dr. smiley.

i think that you will have plenty of time to prepare for your DAT exam at the end of the Spring semester. i'd take it at the very end of June and submit it to the school. you will be in a very good shape if you send it in in Aug.

Study hard on DAT, and you should be able to get in somewhere next year.

I think you should apply this upcoming cycle, you have an excellent chance of getting in with your experience and motivation to continue to better your application. I myself planned to take the DAT in April, only because I thought it would better my application, but the turn around at the application center is pretty long as some people will tell you...I'm now going to take the DAT in late June, I think if you take them before August, you'll be golden in your application; just do stellar this semester to boost that GPA a few points.

Another factor is that every year there is more and more applicants. This year had 20% more than last year and last year had 15% more than the year before. So the schools are getting more competitive every year, so it is definitely best to apply this year than waste ur year and have a lesser chance of getting in.
