When is the deadline for applying to the NYCPM for the January term? Just wondering, since on the AACPM site, it says the application is now closed. On the NYCPM site, however, they say they are still accepting applications for the January term. I'm not planning on applying for the January 2009 term, but just wondering... Lets just say someone wants to apply for January 2009 term now, how would they go about doing that? Would they have to wait until September 2, when the application opens again?

Just a guess, but maybe it says that 24/7/365?

Have you toured other pod schools? I'm not necessarily saying NYCPM isn't the best choice for your pod education... but it all depends on personality and your learning style. It might not be a bad suggestion to wait until Sept to have a chance to visit and apply to all 9 pod programs... not just NY.

Do you select a car/truck to buy just because it's the only one in the lot and the dealer has on super sale that day...
...orrr do you take your time, do your research, and pick the best one? Just things to think about... GL

Well, as I stated, I am NOT applying to NYCPM for the January term, but I am just wondering... Just for the sake of it, let's say an applicant wants to go to NYCPM, and is not interested in any other pod school. Let's say this applicant wants to start in January at NYCPM. What if the applicant did research on all the other pod schools but is only interested in this one.. Then what?

I don't understand why you are so furiously interested in this since you say you are not applying!....but call/email the school....Lisa Lee can answer your questions...

In general, for all of those who are really interested in a school's application process or want to clear up some sort of discrepancy with their website, but don't want to apply to the school....Call/Email them....

👍

how am i furiously interested? i just asked a simple damn question. like wtf. the only reason i'm asking about NYCPM is because no other school has the january program, duh. also, it makes no sense for me to call the school if i'm not interested in applying. how come every time someone asks a question on this site, the response is "call the school"..? well, duh. we're asking the forum for YOUR thoughts and opinions. that's the point of it being a forum anyway. jeez

The problem may be with your question. Your asking us for a date of a deadline. We don't know. It may change year to year. People tell other posters to call the school when you guys have a question that is unanswerable by us. I would say that the point of this fourm isn't a substitute for doing your own footwork. If your not getting the answer your looking for here, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO FIND IT! Like, call the school.

Dude, the jan program is pretty much there to get money out of people. The school gets tuition $ for about 30 extra students with this deal. I guess its good if you have been out of school for a while...as you begin the program only taking 2 classes (anatom + neuro).

There is no extra charge for January program. You pay pro-rated amount for 2 classes. The tuition is about 25k a year and if you start in Jan, you pay about 7-8k in Jan and then around the same for next two sem. You can always double check with the school. You can apply for Jan session in Sept.

The only thing that you pay extra is for your cost of living. The program is completely worth it. I have talked to several students @ NYCPM who would do the Jan. program in a heartbeat.👍

I never said it costs more money...as the tuition is pro-rated. However it is a way for the school to bank some good money.

Why are you against NYCPM "banking" good money? They take 100 students just like Temple and OCPM. If those two schools take 100 people, are they not also just out to get money? I understand your reasoning in saying they are a private school so all they want is your tuition, but isn't it possible that they want your tuition so that they can keep the school going? From what I saw there, it's not like they are spending irresponsibly (ie look at their hallways), but I imagine it costs more to run a school than what you or I can understand. The January program takes around 25 people, and those 25 are INCLUDED in the hundred they take each year...not in addition to. It isn't making them any more money to offer the January class. Please, get off your soapbox.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that all the podiatry schools were private. Or do you mean that the school is not affliated with a larger university; because those mean two separate things.

That is absolutely what I meant. Geez. Gotta be pretty precise with your language around here.

I think it's funny that OCPM took in about 120 students this fall and NYCPM took in less than 100 and it gets all the bad mouthing for being a joke of a school.

🙂 precision and accuracy is key my friend...otherwise, rumors get started.

Hey, man... my school consistently takes under 80, follows their cap, and is "the worst podiatry school" according to some ppl 😕

I just laugh it off. You have to remember: most of the "experts" on the ranking of the pod schools are pre-pods.

Very true! And most of the more outspoken about their school are probably being paid workstudy by their admissions people to say it!

Everyone has pride and bias about their school. That's inevitable.

The bottom line is that each pod school has strong/weak points (basic sciences, clinical classes, clinic experiences, externship schedule, etc). Top students/residents can come from any school.

Some schools have more strong points, and other ones have a lot of weak points. Each prospective student eventually has to pick the one that best fits their learning style and goals.
