I took the DAT 1st time today, and it went very bad. I figured everyone is on this forum since they already took it and i might get more input from ppl.

I have a sgpa 3.2 Cum 3.38

lots of ECs, shadowing, tutoring, mentor, dental assisting at shelter, lots of campus involvement.

Unfortunately retake is outa question for this cycle, I kept postponing because i did not feel ready. I finally sacked up and took it and this happened. took it yesterday so I dont feel as bad as i was (thanks to my family n frends) but I still feel pretty down about the whole thing.

I know I wont get interviews or anything, but would applying now and again show as me trying to improve?? Is it a total waste of money right now?

i say go for it if you want. No one here in this forum can give you an answer with 100% certainty. The only way to be 100% sure is that you apply.

Invest a couple hundred dollars more and see what happens. That's what I would do.

people do get in with those stats.

I don't think so unless you are applying to the school in your state. My suggestion is to apply to the school in your state and retake the DAT and try next year.

To get an Idea of who is getting an interview and who is getting rejection, take a look at predent website.

The interview stat looks pretty high in this cycle so far.

if $ is not a problem then go for it...

I won't put the same thing in this thread as I did your other thread--You better make for dang sure that if you apply this cycle and don't make it, that when you apply next cycle you prove that you are a better applicant. In addition to acing your classes and doing stellar on the DAT, you still have to remain involved and show dental schools that you are interested in dentistry (As well as improving your personal statement).

Every single secondary i filled out said "If you are a reapplicant what have you done in the last year to improve as an applicant?" In answer to your question, applying now and later will not hurt you, you will just have to work extra hard to show that you have improved. A video I watched recently with a question and answer session with an adcom from Midwestern Dental School in Arizona said the thing he saw most often in re-applicants is that they would apply with the same exact application that that were rejected with the previous year. Plan now to look like an excellent applicant later.

Good luck my friend!

Thank you guys, money is short but this is the money i had saved for applying. I feel like it will be an investment if I apply this year. I have and am improving in every other part of my application. Everything has gone up n up after I bombed my freshmen year.

I dont think ill get in, I mean it would be nice but I wanna at least apply this cycle and know that i tried. if I dont get in ill definitely improve my stats and other parts as well.

Wish I had instate schools. Thanks guys once again you guys are very helpful.

Good luck to everyone!!! Hope you all get in 😀
