Hey, is it possible to apply to U.S. schools as a 1st year student after doing a year abroad?? Ive been accepted to a school in the carib, and that sounds way more appealing than a post bacc.
thanks.

Your chance of applying with advanced standing after one year from anywhere abroad is about zero; the odds of being admitted with advanced standing after 2 or 3 years abroad are very slightly better. More than half of US med schools do not take transfers from anywhere, including other US med schools. A few take transfers from other US med schools only for compelling, compassionate reasons. A rather small number take transfers from foreign med schools after at least the second year and the taking of the USMLE, part I. The number able to transfer often varies. Very competitive at that point. You are probably better off going into a postbac program, if that is suitable, and getting As, or, if you choose to go abroad, expect to complete your medical education there. Even if someone tells you "I did it" all the details of how and why are often unknown to you; even if you hear all the details, the transferee is often not sure which details actually turned the trick.
