I am currently applying for Rads, although it looks more likely that I will do a transitional year having NOT matched Rads this cycle. My question to everyone is how to best aproach next year knowing that I will be applying as a PGY-2 to rads programs. Besides doing well clinically, and trying to set up more research in rads during the year, is there anything else you guys/gals would advise for someone in my position? I know many people who pursue transitional years have in fact matched into rads for the following years, but for someone who HASNT matched, and will need to reapply, what is the course of action that will BEST increase my standings?
Thanks

Well I'm just a med student, but I would suggest that you apply to all the community programs that perhaps before you thought were undesirable rads programs in crappy locations. Any program will give you the tools to be good, and being a radiologist at the weakest program in the country is better than not being a radiologist. I hope to match into the best academic rads program possible, but I would be content to match into a community program in the middle of nowhere if that's what it came down to.

You bring up a good point....I forgot to mention that I am not applying to the top programs, but rather that I am applying ALL OVER, more so to community programs because at the end of the day, I want to get in, and I am not concerned with applying to the top programs.

Thanks for the reply
