I am a WV resident, and while some schools I have looked at have contract seats with vet schools I was wondering which ones West Virginia actually has contract seats with. How do I apply as a contract seat?

thanks, and do these contract seats give me in-state priority in admissions decisions or just in-state tuition if I get in?

on that website when you click on available contract seats it says "available seats for WVU students"...which is where I'm confused. Are those seats for WVU students or all WV residents?

I would assume all WV residents based on the numbers.

Its a contract for WV Residents not WVU students

This is straight from the WVU website:
"Because West Virginia does not have its own veterinary school, West Virginia Residents are given special consideration...In accordance with the Southern Regional Education Board, these colleges reserve a specified number of contract seats for
WV residents."

Those contracts look pretty accurate. I applied to VMRCVM as a VA resident this application cycle but it's looking like I'm not going to get in so next year I'm filing WV residency cause I work and live on the border of VA/WV. When you apply to these contract schools, you'll get IS tuition as well I do believe.

What's crazy is these schools are pretty far from WV, yet VMRCVM, OSU, and UT which are all relatively closer to WV, don't contract with WV. Although, OSU does take alot of OSU residents.

OSU used to contract with WV. Up until just a couple of years ago, actually. They used to have 90 seats for IS, 40 seats for OOS, and 10 seats for WV residents. I don't know why they ended the contract with WV, but they did and now they say they have 90-100 seats for IS and 40-50 seats of OOS.

We were told the contract was terminated because of the way the WV students were treated at interviews (i.e. poorly). Whether or not this is really true I have no idea I didn't apply to OSU. I went to WVU for grad school (was not a WV resident so it didn't really apply to me) but I heard this from multiple facutly members as well as pretty much everyone on my committee (one of whom was the chair of the animals sciences dept).

That's pretty terrible if it's true. 😡 I find that quite disheartening considering how likely it would be for a WV resident to potentially settle down in Ohio since it is most likely close to home to many WV residents. Even if they didn't settle in Ohio, they could settle just across the border in Kentucky or WV and continue to benefit the state that invested in them.

I always wonder how much preference these schools give to students applying as a resident from a state without a vet school. I wonder if it's also a possibility that OSU wanted to make everyone OOS to get more money from the school? Cause generally contracts get IS tuition.

Hi all, this coming application year I will be applying a WV resident. This past application year I applied as VA resident to VMRCVM only, but unfortunately didn't get in, so onto this next cycle. Sort of sad, but it drives me to improve my application knowing that VMRCVM thinks I can do better. If they think I can do better as an applicant, then I should also!! 😀

So I live in Huntington and work at Marshall. I've been here since July of last year and moved here with my husband whom is a med student at Marshall. I really like living in WV, and the Appalachian Mountains in general. I moved to Cali, temporarily and while I liked it there, Appalachia is my home!! 😀
I went to Radford University for my undergraduate degree in Biology, Go Highlanders! If ya'll want my stats, I'll post em, just let me know!

This year's application volume II 😳 I'll be applying to VMRCVM (again- since it's close to home, my entire family is in Blacksburg and my hubbs), Ohio State (again close to the hubbs), Auburn (as a contract-so far away from my hubbs, will need moral support from any other mountain folks if ya'll get in lol), Georgia (same situation), potentially Illinois and Tennessee.

Hope to meet some of ya'll on here and hopefully WV will represent at some of these regional schools!! 😍
