Hello Everyone.
I am new to this forum and so far I really got a lot of useful information that I could really use. But I have one question.
I am currently a sophomore in a community college and I was just wondering if it is possible to apply for dental school during junior year?
And what are the chances of getting in if I have a 4.0 GPA, 100 hours volunteer, good amount of shadowing, and about 18-20 DAT (I didn't take the DAT yet, but my practice score was 21)?

Thanks:meanie:

Slim to none, 4.0 from a 4 year and 23+ DAT, maybe.

I did my gchem, ochem, and physics from my CC then transferred, with about a 3.4, Started my Junior year at my university, got a 22AA on the DAT, applied late, got into three schools, now I'm finishing up my BS and starting DS in the fall. You've got a very good chance, just do well on your dat's, atleast 19's, APPLY EARLY, write a great paper and get some decent letters and you'll be good.

Good Luck, and don't let the anti-CC crowd get you down! =p

he's joking. Your stats are awesome. Get some University credits under you belt asap.

because s/he is from a community college?

No; because many of the institutions want a four year degree. Doc toothache has the statistics.

Ohh..I misread that. SO the OP is a sophomore and wants to get in w/o a B.S. I see, yeah you would need exceptional stats from a good university or just get lucky.

But..I'm confused because the OP says, "apply during junior year" if you apply during your junior year, you will get in after fiinishing your B.S. since it takes a yr to go through the application process..

Oh, yeah, I thought that anyone applying in their junior year would finish their degree anyway - that last year is the easiest. I think he means he's going to get it, but was wondering about applying right after transferring.

Most institutions require 60 credits from their institution or only accept up to 60 transfer credits.

Sorry, not sure what the confusion is here. The OP sounds like he's doing exactly what I did, that being transfer from a CC to a university and apply to dental school that same year. I'm sure he'll still be able to finish his BS before he would plan on attending Dental school. But you're right, many schools set a limit to how many units you can do at the CC. I took about 90 units at my CC (go go volleyball, bowling and Kayaking!), but UC Irvine only allowed me to transfer 70 Semester Units - I know many schools have a similar restriction (others are 60), so that you can't complete much more than half of your degree at the CC.
