I had a question about applying Early Decision to schools. I was only planning on applying to Chapman this cycle for admission in fall 2014, and was planning on applying to other California schools next summer for admission in 2015.

If I apply Early Decision, am I required to attend Chapman if I get accepted? I know I wouldn't be able to matriculate at another school that particular year, but could I potentially reject the offer and then apply to other schools during the next year's cycle or is that not possible?

Not planning on actually doing this, but just curious about how the process works. Thanks!

Correct, if you get accepted in early decision, that's where you have to go. You can read more about it in PTCAS info regarding early decision. Explains it all there.

Thanks, obeshy! Didn't notice that section 🙂

Also, I was just wondering if anyone knew what the pre-reqs for Chapman were exactly. On their website, they only require one biology course and two psychology courses, whereas on the PTCAS website, it has only one psychology course and two biology courses listed as pre-reqs. I'm not too worried about this because I'll have all of them fulfilled anyway, but it would be nice to know what my pre-req GPA is.

Additionally, if anyone could chance me for Chapman this cycle, I'd really appreciate it! Stats so far:

University: UCLA 2012
Major: BS Biology
Cumulative GPA: 3.52
Pre-req GPA: ~3.6
GRE: have not taken it yet, but am expecting a high score as I am good at test-taking (2330 on SAT)
Observation Hours: Just started as a part time PT aide at an outpatient ortho clinic, will have AT LEAST 80 hours by the time I apply (most likely closer to 400), and planning on doing some additional shadowing in different settings (at least 40 hours)
Extra-curric: director of committee in student government for 2 years, 2 years working at an optometry clinic as an assistant, 6 months business experience at major company, 2 years of undergraduate ecology research, 3 months undergraduate molecular bio research, 5 month research and development cell biology internship at biotech company (published), intramural soccer, running (completed one half marathon, another in October)

I didn't start heading in the PT direction until recently, so I have a feeling that I will feel too rushed applying to schools this cycle, but Chapman doesn't require LORs or an essay, so I'm going to apply there just to have the option of potentially starting school in 2014 vs 2015.

Thanks!

If you apply to a school through early decision and are accepted there, you cannot apply to other PTCAS schools. You could potentially apply to schools that do not use PTCAS if you are interested in the fall of 2014.

There are other schools that you could potentially apply to for the fall of 2014. Some have deadlines in January or February, but I do not know about schools in CA, just ND. PTCAS would have the info.

Good luck!

Hi! I literally just submitted my app for Chapman Early Decision. I talked to Serena (the admissions coordinator) and this year it will be 1 psych and 2 bio pre-reqs. I'm also pretty sure you have to take the GREs by the end of July for early decision. You can always apply during the regular cycle if you don't get the test date. Try to get 150s on the Q+V and a 4 on the A. Since chapman doesn't include LORs and interviews, you're mainly being judged on your academic history and pt-related experience. Try to get in-patient hours too, not just out-patient. But your grades look competitive. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

If you get accepted to with early decision to a school that uses PTCAS, you cannot apply to others if you're accepted.

You can actually apply early decision to every school that doesn't use PTCAS. The only problem here is that some schools actually make you pay a fee if you decline your acceptance. You can't reapply to that school the next cycle if you don't pay the fee.

Certain schools won't actually consider you for early decision if you don't have a certain minimum level of stats. MUSC requires you have at least a 3.5 and 300 GRE for you to be considered for early decision. If you're below either of these, you're moved to regular admissions.
