People always say to apply early to medical school but is there a way to quantify that? I just received my MCAT scores yesterday and am planning on submitting my AMCAS application either today or tomorrow. Would this still be considered early? Or would you say this is more the middle of the pack now? Thanks for your help!

You are definitely not late, but you won't be in with the first batch of applications sent to schools. You are fine.

When you complete at schools matters. If you are fast with secondaries and complete at all schools before July then you are still early. I didn't apply to one particular school until September and still got in and I am not even that impressive as an applicant.

Starting August 1st and every three weeks after that you lose another LizzyM point.

I'm assuming you're talking about getting EVERYTHING (secondary+LORs+fees) done and verified by then right?

Just curious, say you get a secondary July 1st, how much more advantageous is it to turn it in on July 10th vs. August 1st?

If you turn it in today or tomorrow you will still be pretty early. Granted there are many ahead of you already so it will probably take them ~4 weeks to verify you (it took them a little over a week for me and I submitted 6/6). As others have said, it is more a matter of being complete early at the schools you are applying to. Regardless of your stats, just get everything in ASAP. I learned the hard way last year that applying early really is one of the most important things. Now all of my friends are in programs, and I am stuck working in a lab, writing more essays and paying more fees to get in. Learn from my mistakes and apply early. Good luck!!

It's certainly not late, but there should be a fire under your behind right now. I submitted July 6th of last year and felt like it might have been 'not early enough'. Submit ASAP, don't procrastinate this stuff for a single second.
