Hi, is there anyone who experienced the same thing?
I finished my AEGD residency last year and worked for 1 year in NYS. Recently, I decided to relocate to CA and started licensure application process. One of the documents that I needed was "Clinical Residency Completion" document, which I have to get signed by AEGD program director. But my AEGD program said that the form is just part of this whole endorsement process. She said they have their own policy to endorse the "certification to apply CA license" and one of the requirements is that you have to apply within up to 6 months of the program completion." I haven't seen any timeframe restriction on the CA dental board website. I contacted CA dental board, and the lady who I talked to was also a little skeptical about going through residency route because it has been a while since I completed the program. What should I do?

Florida does something similar. They don't accept PGY-1, but a couple years ago they started accepting the NERB if taken outside of Florida and in it's entirety. But if the doctor doesn't apply for FL licensure within 1 year of completing the NERB they have to take it again. So, I would encourage you to look up the CA laws and statutes and see for yourself.

I looked up on the CA dental board website, it does not say anything about that. But the problem is that, even if CA dental board is okay with old residency, the AEGD program will not sign on the form that I need to submit to the dental board to show that I completed the program.

Why your program didn't want to sign the form? Thats sound weird.

I was told the same thing when I asked about it during my residency. They said getting licensure through residency is meant for new grads only (max 6 months out of residency)

Just threaten the residency with legal action. CA doesn't have a requirement for when you completed the residency to get the licensure.

Where is this policy and when did you sign consent to such policy? Sounds like they are just making **** up.

Because according to their own policy, it has to be within 6 months after the completion. Its been 1 year in my case. That's why they did not want to. I wrote an petition email to the whole program director yesterday. I will keep you guys posted with her answer.

Request the AEGD provide a source which you received during your program, in writing, that the policy they are stating is in fact valid. You may need legal representation.
