I am applying to DO schools starting in June. 3.45 cumulative, 3.3 science, 28 mcat

I want to retake a nutrition class that I got a C in during my freshman year (when I was more immature and stupid)

The science GPA would increase to 3.4 if I got an A... however, the grade would not go on my transcript until Fall 2015. Is this too late for it to be worth retaking the class? I am trying to submit my AACOMAS in June 2015.

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE !!!

Can you take it over the summer or online? I would go for it. Worst case it gives you something to send as an update after first semester if you haven't heard from a school(s) you wanted to.

In my opinion, with your current stat now and great ECs (I assume), you absolutely have no trouble getting interview invites and ultimately get accepted somewhere. Since nutrition is not a pre-requisite, with your current grade of C taking it or not taking wont make a huge impact on your application if you get a A or B... But if the same C or just slightly higher let's say B-, then you just wasted your time and money. I am being realistic and want to save you your time, energy and money first and suggest you use that time to participate in something that has significant impacts.

In case you want to retake, you can put that retake class in your application and mark "in progress" and update later but as you said you wont have the grade until Fall so I am not sure the beginning of the Fall or after Fall quarter/semester. But IMO, only one nutrition class wont make a huge impact on ur application if you ace it.

The way this course is offered at my school is kind of strange. It is online, begins in April and ends in January 2016. So technically I will be working on the class during this summer. However, the grade will go onto the Spring 2015 transcript when the class is completed and the grade is posted in late fall/winter. Thanks for your input!

Thanks, it is true that I should look at the other things I could be doing to strengthen my application and see if this is the best use of the $$$ and time. I am waiting to hear back from an advisor who will be able to give a better idea of when the grade shows up on a transcript.

Since AACOMAS is the one that calculates the GPA, anything that not is on your transcripts when submitted to AACOMAS, presumably in June of this year, will NOT be used towards GPA calc. So I would not bother
what if he were to take the classes in summer. would that be worth the trouble?

Genuinely the difference between a 3.3 and a 3.4 probably isn't all that significant. Your mcat in either case makes up for it in full.

...And given that the OP got a C in nutrition class which is not a pre-req... So, I would rather do something else that has significant positive impact on my application. Just my opinion...the OP obviously would have no trouble with the current stat assuming that everything else is fine including a quite well-balanced MCAT breakdown.

thanks for the input all. I was trying to get my application submitted in early June, and was considering what would happen if I retook a class after it was submitted. It sounds like the general consensus is that this would not be extremely helpful. However, I have an unbalanced MCAT, probably should have brought up in the beginning. 7/11/10.
