It's not too early at all. Complete your financial aid ap. at fafsa.ed.gov as soon as you (or your parents if you are a dependent) files your 2008 taxes. Most need based scholarships require that it be completed before apply as well.

After you file your FAFSA and put the school down there is really nothing else for you to do but sit back and wait. When their financial aid office starts processing the FAFSA, things will start to roll then. Just keep checking to make sure that the school receives your SAR.
