Hey all, I'm going to graduate next May and doing rotations right now. If I want to start working next June, when should I start looking for jobs and applying. The online websites show me several positions I'm the locations I want to work in so do I apply now or wait a few months? Obviously I won't be graduated and taken the certification exam until May, 2014.

I'd say it can't hurt to contact those companies and ask. Like you said, they obviously can't hire you as a pharmacist now, but if they can wait to fill the position (or expect another opening) then it would only help you to contact them now. How far is the location you desire from where you are now? Perhaps you could start work as an intern if they're desperate?

I'm already an intern at Walmart pharmacy in the St Louis area but would like to go back home after school to the crazy saturated Chicago market. If you work as a pharmacy intern at a big retail, do they generally offer you pharmacist positions when you graduate?

I was wondering this too. I was working this weekend at my part-time intern job, and the student that is on rotation there this month wanted an afternoon off to go interview with a company. I though it was way to soon to be applying, but I guess not. Any advice from recent grads when you started applying?

My roommate (also a P4) has been with a big chain for a few years and they already scheduled him for an interview for August. I am waiting for interview day through my university which should be sometime in October. I've heard that only chain retail will start hiring early though. If you see job postings for hospitals/independents/etc. they usually need a person now so you wouldn't be able to apply for those until next April-May at least.

I have many friends that are interns at big chains... I know that at least for RiteAid (where I used to work), they have a meeting with all of the interns and district managers to go over the staffing situations and see where they can fit their interns in as pharmacists. They do their best to hire, at least as a floater until they can find a home store for them.

oh really. I didn't know I should be applying now. I will get on that and ask Walmart if they are hiring full time pharmacist positions in the midwest preferably IL.

Do 4th year pharmacy students REALLY apply THIS EARLY? We aren't even done with our rotations and don't graduate until May.

This is really very early. I interviewed I think in September/October for May graduation and I was like one of the first people in my class that had a job. But hey good luck! :luck:
