Hello,

Question) Is it okay if I don't have Pre-dental society in EC? Also, I don't have leadership role.. I was a treasurer for school RSO..and that's it.

So far, I have about 20 schools on my list and I am willing to apply very broadly and to many school.. maybe around 15-18 schools.
Which ones should I delete or add? I want to go somewhere in East Coast if I can so that's why I have a lot of schools on the East coast.

Some schools I'm also considering to apply are: U of Pacific, U of Michigan, Indiana, Detroit Mercy, Pittsburg, Nova

<School List>
1. NYU
2. Tufts
3. UIC
4. Southern Illinois University
5. Midwestern-IL
6. Roseman University
7. Western University
8. LECOM
9. Boston University (debating.. cuz they require Calc 1)
10. A.T.Still University
11. Creighton University
12. Touro
13. The Maurice H. Kronberg
14. Virginia Commonwealth University
15. University of Louisville
+ 16. University of Detroit Mercy
+ 17. Case Western Reserve University
+18. Indiana University
+19. Midwestern-AZ
+20. USC

Deleted schools:
East Carolina University
UNC
Howard University

Meharry Medical College
West Virginia University
Rutgers
University of New England (they require Anatomy lab)
Loma Linda University -- seems like they like students from religious schools
NOVA

Unc is going to be a little bit of a reach
If you’re URM Howard and Meharry are fine, if not those will be a bit of a reach.

Consider adding UDM and Case

I would suggest that you increase you volunteer hours and try to get a leadership role. As predent2151 mentions, take out UNC as it is very unfriendly towards OOS/ INT applicants. I would go ahead and add Indiana as well as UDM but not NOVA, UM or UOP (unlikely chances at interview). Also consider MWU-AZ, UNLV. Loma Linda is a religious institution and requires a letter from a religious leader in case you aren't aware. I think you should aim for 15 schools total.

I'm not sure where to get a leadership role at this moment 🙁 Should I aim for 200 hours of volunteering hours? Also, how about other schools other than UNC?

I'm not URM. But when I looked at Howard and Meharry's stats, they were around or below my stats. How are they reach schools for me? I will take out ECU and UNC.

Have you tried starting your own club? How about becoming a Vice president of a club? How about organizing a fundraiser with a few friends? Yes get those hours as high as possible. I applied to 6 of the schools on your list, and i'm not too familiar with the rest. i would go back and see which ones you don't like (and check the cost) and exclude a few.

Not trying to be rude but you realllyyyy need to research your schools. The fact you had ECU on your list means you didn’t take the time to even go onto their website because it states WE ARE ONLY ACCEPTING NC RESIDENTS AT THIS TIME in big red letters. Do some research on each school to really see if they’re a fit for you. The schools list looks pretty decent though if you implement the changes. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. So do you recommend applying to Meharry and Howard anyways..? I might just apply and see what happens..? I will definitely do some more research. The list I have right now is mostly private schools.

If it were me I wouldn’t keep them. The list you have so far is pretty solid especially if you take our suggestions. You could maybe throw in a reach school like UPenn since your ECs sound pretty good. You could add MUSC as well but I’m really not sure what they’re looking for. I never heard back after submitting my app. Maybe add Kentucky as well. They really value patient interaction experiences. If I were you I would retake the DAT before application. If you get a 22+ you open yourself up to any school really.

You read my mind. I was going to apply to Upenn for a reach school and Upenn was the main reason why I wanted to retake DAT and score 22+ on. lol. I will think about MUSC, Kentucky, and Case Western. Will be adding UDM for sure. I was going to apply on June 1st with my DAT score right now (AA20) and retake DAT on the second week of June.

That’s a fine idea. By the time schools even review your app your new ones will be in. Good luck with the studying! It shouldn’t take very long to get you from 20 to 22+.

I believe West Virginia isn't OOS friendly but not sure. I would look it up.

I agree if you're not URM drop Howard and Meharry. Drop ASDOH too considering you only have a couple hundred volunteer hours considering they want extensive which is listed on their website. Rutgers would be a stretch for you considering your DAT and GPA are both lower than your averages but you could try.

Check this out for options of OOS schools to apply to. I think if you apply broadly and improve your ECs you have a shot.

Thanks for the input. I'm checking if I can get volunteer hours for international missions trips I've been to. It will add couple hundred hours. Also, I will be doing extensive volunteering this summer so I will have couple hundreds of hours! I might drop Rutgers cuz I've heard so much about their high DAT and GPA preference. Do you think I can add UCSF and/or USC? and also Nova and Indiana?

no for UCSF. your GPA and DAT is below their average. Also, from my UCSF interview, a lot of the ppl i met there have graduated from undergrad, and they're either working as their gap year or doing a master. but at the end of the day, if UCSF is your dream school...it's a drop in the bucket to send them your application. I would add indiana and NOVA. idk about USC.
Oh so UCSF has a lot of people who have graduated from UCSF undergrad? what do you mean that they're either working as their gap year or doing a master? Well then I will not add UCSF.

i agree with other in that i would not add ucsf considering your stats most likely would eliminate you from consideration. if AADSAS considers your mission trip part of volunteering than i would add it to your application, you dont need someone to verify that. i think rutgers would be a huge reach but they explicitly say during interviews they dont preference IS/OOS if that helps u decide at all.

as for usc if you are okay with the cost and PBL then i would add it. Nova would be a reach. indiana wouldnt be a bad choice either to add or even u minnesota. also i consider adding both midwestern schools due to OOS friendly (AZ > IL in my opinion if u pick one of them)

I see you're applying to LLU and Western. Why not USC?

I might add both Midwestern. Not sure about Minnesota though.. hmm
