Hi,
I am planning on applying next cycle and wanted to share my personal situation with you guys.

I took a prep course last summer and registered for the September MCAT. I didn't feel too confident and decided to cancel and postpone my date to January. However, I am trying to register for the January MCAT right now and am only able to get a spot in April (not even March).

I'm really new to registration but is there anyway I could register for April tentatively and should any spots be available in January/March could I take those?

I was also wondering if this doesn't work out and I end up having to take the MCAT in April, and my scores don't look too good, could I take it in June and still send in my primary application on June 1st?

I know I was stupid to wait so long to register. But what's done is done.

Thanks for any help! 🙂

You can submit your application with your April scores. However, if your April scores are terrible, you will have to hold off on submitting primaries to any schools that pre-screen, simply because they may reject you based on your April scores. Other than that, your AMCAS can be submitted in June and will simply have to be updated in July with your new scores.

Double check how long before the test you can cancel and get a full refund. If it's like 2-4 weeks: sign up now, keep looking for winter dates, and cancel the April date if a winter spot opens up.

EDIT: Actually, better double check that you can be signed up for 2 dates at once. Maybe someone can verify this.

I believe that you can sign up for the April test, keep searching for January/March, and as you find a spot in January/March you can register for that and simultaneous drop April. So, can't hold two places at once, but I think that the system won't let go of the April place without confirming your new winter spot.

Why not just take more time and take MCAT in April or May or even June?

You won't be needing MCAT scores till next cycle anyways, and you won't be applying till early June.

If I were you, I would take time to prepare for MCAT and take it in May.

Also, if you are worried about getting bad score on your first test, take first test in early April and sign up for May test as well.

You can add the Jan date only by dropping the April and then signing up for the Jan....

I would take the MCAT when I am ready...not just trying to get it out the way!

Yeah, don't ever take an mcat 'just to see how you'd do', or just to get it done...it stays with you and is far too important to take lightly.
