I began filling the dental apps in today, but I am taking the DAT at the end of July? Is this too late to be taking the DAT? When is the latest everything for my app including DAT scores should be in and can still be considered as competitive?

Sorry to tell you this but, I took DAT in June last year and the scores were recieved by the schools by the end of July. But I only got Post-Dec interviews....

I'm in the same situation. Should I take the DAT little earlier even if I would not be prepared as much? Would that be better?

really?! everyone was saying how end of july is OK.. so i'm taking it end of july tooooo =[

This post is extremely misleading.
Taking DAT in July will not be a problem, the scores are uploaded/downloaded electronically, so they are AVAILABLE to the schools the second you finish your test. Now when the schools download it depends on how quickly they review the apps. And when they update on AADSAS about your score received is another matter.
So if kkim said the scores were received by end of july, that means he/she saw the score received update in july. That doesn't mean that's when schools GOT his/her scores because i know some schools update AADSAS like 1ce every 3-4 weeks.
And as to getting post-dec interview, that's probably not because kkim's scores are received late, it just means his/her app is not that competitive in general since there are people who submit in Sept and get interviewed pre-dec. Don't mean to bash kkim, but this post was just way too off.
Hope this helps

I think this year is different than last year. Since they are having us put our DENTPIN on our application, our DAT scores are going to automatically be uploaded to the application. I think it will only take a few days to load after your score is attached to your DENTPIN.

Yeah I'm taking it like August 14th and that's fine because it takes SECONDS for it to be uploaded and the first batch doesn't even GET to the dental schools until August anyway.

this is because of the changes with ADA sending DAT scores directly to AADSAS? it is never this quick in previous cycles right?

So i have basically everything on my application filled out and ready to submit. transcripts have been mailed with matching forms, etc....

I am taking the DAT for the 1st time on June 25th. is there any advantage to submitting my application now WITHOUT the DAT scores vs. submitting the application on June 25th after i've taken the DAT?

what should I do?

it WILL NOT be automatic, they still have to audit your scores which could take several weeks......

I don't understand what needs to be audited if they have a direct link to our official date scores via our DENTPINs. I know it won't be "automatic," but I don't understand why it'd take that long.

I think they only look at your app once everything is in so it won't make a difference but might help to submit your app now so they receive it earlier and will have everything once you've taken the DAT.

So how long does it take for the scores to get to the schools? Some people say it's automatic and some say it takes several weeks. For example, if you take the test July 28th, about when would schools be able to see it?

Also inaccurate. Why do people fervently spew misinformation when you either know it or not. No information leaves the ADA for at least 2 weeks and while schools you have directly chosen will receive it sooner then AADSAS, expect AADSAS to take an additional 1-2 weeks due to which batch you make. Remember, it can take AADSAS up to 4-6 weeks to verify your own app although mine was verified within a week last cycle.

I called AADSAS and this is what they old me. If you would mind me asking...when did you submit? and when did you take the DAT?

From last cycle....there were 2 wait-periods that are out of the applicant's control:

#1) AADSAS verification period. They claim 4-6 weeks, for me, it took them like 2 weeks. They usually don't use up all the 6 weeks.

#2) DAT's official score report is NOT generated for 2-4 weeks AFTER the DAT is taken. You know that score sheet they give at the end of your test, at the top is says "Unofficial score report". Well, the official one (the one AADSAS needs) takes ADA/ADEA about 2-4 weeks to generate.

The most ideal thing to do is to take the DAT AND submit your application on the same exact day. Since they are both going to use up 2-4 weeks verifying.

As far are what is considered early/late, read people's opinion here:

wouldn't it be best to submit the application as soon as you can, no? From what I understand, it can take up to 4-6 weeks for your AADSAS application to be verified, so that would mean if you took your DAT the same day you submit your application then your DAT would probably beat the AADSAS verification time line... especially if it takes say 2 weeks for scores to be official... right?

well... if you go with what AADSAS & ADEA suggest, its 4-6 weeks for AADSAS and 4 weeks for the official report. The 2 weeks between them is insignificant.

But in reality, and from what I've seen and heard time and time again, a more correct estimate for both is 2-3 weeks.

That is correct assuming you've take the DAT before June 1st. If your taking the DAT after AADSAS opens, it doesn't matter when you apply, because no matter what/when you do, schools will consider your application incomplete until the official DAT score report is received.

I've heard of a few circumstances of some applicants faxing over the unofficial score report on the same day the DAT was taken.... I dunno how many schools are accepting of this, especially since many are switching over to 100% paperless applications.

What about if you have already taken the DAT once before, were not happy with your scores, and are re-taking it again in July? Would you still wait until you take it the second time, or send it in a 2 weeks earlier to time it out right?

If you have a DAT score (even if its not satisfactory), you can/should apply early.... get the process out of the way.

As far as telling AADSAS your retaking in July... thats your call

I'm in the similar situation. But there's no longer a "Future DAT" option under DAT Scores section of the app, so I think ppl need to email individual schools about the retake...this is what i'll do.

If your app is submitted without taking your DAT, the schools you have applied to will get an "Unofficial Score Report" very soon after the completion of your DAT. However, it will indeed take several weeks for the schools to get your official DAT scores.

Where did you learn this? I spoke to AADSAS and ADEA and couldn't get any good answer out of them
