Hello, I am new to SDN and I am currently a Studio Art major and a Art History minor at the University of Alabama and am wanting to apply to a career changer Post-Bacc program. Unfortunately during my sophomore year I had something really personal and tragic that was out of my control happen to me that just shot down my GPA. Even though I am making good grades now that I am a junior and plan to as a senior, I'm expecting I'll only graduate with a 3.2-3.3 GPA. I know some post-bacc advisors at several schools mentioned to me to maybe explain on a separate essay or in the personal essay to discuss my personal situation as to explain my GPA.

But should I be able to get accepted to a decent post-bacc somewhere? I know some schools I was looking at state the minimum is a 3.0 to apply but I don't know how picky they are. Do you think explaining my personal situation will help me at all? My dream school would be Tufts University whos "minimum" is a 3.0 GPA.

Any advise or tips would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I have great shadowing experience, great amount of volunteer hours, and have done short pre-medical internships/mentorships at both John Hopkins School of Medicine and Drexel University's School of Medicine. And I could get strong recommendation letters.

I would think that's a competitive gpa. Since many people do post bacs because of a lower gpa, though I'm sure it depends on the program.

Do you have all the med school prereqs or is that why you are taking this route? If not, simply an informal postbac (taking the classes you need as a non degree seeker) could be more beneficial.

Post-bac programs are a dime a dozen. You're fine for any of them. Never explain a low GPA in any essay. It always comes across as excuse making.
