Hello everyone,

I graduated in May 2024, and I'm currently taking classes at my local community college to improve my sGPA. My advisor at Wayne State Med School recently told me that I should to take more science core classes to get up to 20 credit hours in my post bacc to view this instead of solely looking at my uGPA. I'm currently taking 11 credits, and per my advisor's advice, I was going to take 10 additional credits online through UNE (4 year & accredited). However, my volunteering hour are a bit low right now, and if I take these classes, I'm worried that I won't be able to accumulate as many volunteering hours as I would need to be successful in this application cycle.

All my stats (If you need them to make a decision):

512 MCAT/ 3.485uGPA/3.2 sGPA/ 3.54 (cGPA after post-bacc)/ 3.35 sGPA

1200 hours EMT
150 hours Kid's soup Kitchen (I was the president of this club in which we would travel to underserved communities and teach kids how to make nutritious and simple recipes)
20 hours Food Pantry
15 hours Crisis Text line

Do you think I listen to my Wayne State advisor and take more classes at UNE, or use the last few months before submitting my apps to increase my volunteering hours and improve other parts of my application?

What courses have you taken, and what is left?

Why can't you do both online courses and in-person food distribution?
I've taken all the pre-rec courses I've needed to take including immunology, orgo, pchem, physics, biochemistry. I was considering taking histology, microbiology, and pathophysiology to finish out my post-bacc before I applied. I could do both, however I wouldn't be able to give as much to volunteering as I'd like to due to having to split my time.

My question would be how much, realistically, you could raise your GPA after these last 3 classes; I'm guessing the answer is not by much though so I think if you really must choose between the two, strengthen the volunteering

On the positive side, your MCAT score is generally competitive (although I'm not seeing what programs you're considering). Your previous EMT experience is likewise helpful (although it suggests < 1 year of such work?). Your GPA's are a little weak, as is the totality of your supporting activities. Assuming you have completed all the pre-med requirements for consideration, I don't believe additional coursework will be of much utility (at least in the eyes of an admissions committee). If I were you, I'd seriously consider pursuing supporting activities rather than more classes...
