Good idea or bad idea? I mean an M.D. degree is an M.D. degree...

Good idea if you think you have a decent chance of getting into those schools.

Based on average indebtedness of M.D graduates by school, it seems like the cheapest schools end up being some of the hardest to get into, unfortunately. According to US news, the schools with the least are Mayo, UCSD, Baylor, UNC, WashU, Stanford, ect, while those with the most are all DO schools plus small, private M.D. schools like Temple and Creighton.

Two things:
1. From a 10 second read of the first link you posted "Texas schools were well represented, with the Lone Star State fielding the top six least expensive public programs." From what I've heard here, it seems like it's pretty seriously hard to get into a Texas program from out of state.

2. Re-read this:

Average indebtedness is not the same thing as tuition price or even cost of attendance, since some schools have really great scholarship aid. I'd be more interested in the average indebtedness than the tuition, since that's what you're actually going to have to pay back.

This source, also US News, gives the total average DEBT and includes private, public, and DO schools. This is the list I was quoting. Financial aid packages vary ALOT by school, as I have learned this cycle.
