hey all:

is it okay to apply to both DO and MD schools? I consider a DO to be as competent as an MD, and i love the fact that they emphasize primary care which is what i like. However, i don't want to risk applying to only 1 school (DO) and not getting accepted.

Of course it's perfectly fine. Just have a good reason at your DO interviews why you want to be a DO and not an MD. I applied to both and it worked out fine for me.

I applied to both and had multiple interviews to MD and DO schools. Its just playing the game of admissions and the application cycle.

Find the school thats right for you!
(and accepts you)

I applied to both fully intending on going to MD schools, but after interviewing on DO campuses, they convinced me otherwise.

i applied to 10 MD and 3 DO schools, got 3 interviews/3 acceptances at all of the DOs, and 3 interviews/3 waitlists from MDs. all i had to do was justify why i wanted to go to a DO school (which was initially my "backup plan" in case i didn't get into an MD), but i ended up really liking all of the schools. but.....if i get in off the waitlist at loyola after may 15, i'll probably go there instead...they've always been my first choice 😀

I applied to only one school and was accepted. The only reason was because I received an interview in August before I submitted the AMCAS and I was about to add another school through ACOMAS so I held off until I got a decision back from PCOM. I probably would advise against it though as it was pretty foolish. I gambled and won, if it were to happen again I might lose.

Good Luck
