Hello,

So after thinking about it a lot I've decided to apply for a Counseling Psychology PhD for the Fall of 2010. I've done a lot of searching for what to expect, etc. and am feeling a little lost even though I have all of this new information...maybe someone here can help.

I got my MA in Psychological Counseling in 2005. I worked as a MH Counselor for about three years in the midst of getting my degree, then got a work opportunity and moved. After three years of working in an unrelated MH field, I have decided to go back to school.

My problem is that even though I have a MA and some counseling work under my belt, I know how important it is to have had some research background somewhere in the mix. I don't have that, and I am worried that will cost me my admittance into this program.

This is my dream and I have big plans for my PhD. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks.

Definitely depends on the programs you're applying to. You will not get into a place like Iowa State, UF, or Maryland. Some where like U North Dakota or Utah might be a possibility, but even then I wouldn't be optimistic if you have NO research experience, to be honest.
