I'm mainly applying to MD schools, yet I's thought of applying to some DO schools as well. Is it normal for people to apply to both types, or just one only?

Yes, typically those who apply to DO schools apply to some MD schools as well.

i'm applying to both as well. youll just have to be able to convince the DO schools that you arent using them as a last resort/back up in case you get rejectd from all your MD schools. whether it is true or not, they like to see that you have some interest in osteopathic medicine.

When I interviewed at one school, they asked me if I had applied to any MD programs. At first it seemed like they didn't really believe me when I told them that I had not.

Truth is I would have, but I got my app in late and the deadlines had passed for MD schools. And while my MCAT was probably good enough, my science GPA was probably not. I didn't feel like wasting another year and more time and money on the slim chance of maybe going MD. Especially when I'm already 27 with a wife and kid and feel like I would fit in better with the many non-traditional applicants at DO schools.

Cool story Hansel.
