Hello, I am planning to apply to DO schools from overseas, I am an American living abroad. Is it possible to apply to DO schools starting this May application cycle for 2010 entry from outside the country?

Sure, why not?
As long as you meet all the criteria for application through AACOMAS, right? You're a citizen, you can apply as one regardless of where you live, as far as I understand it. Where are you living?
Best of luck.

Are you living abroad long term or is it just a study abroad deal? Application should be fine. Interviews will be an expensive pain though.

I knew a girl when I was in Berlin that flew back to the states for the MCAT and then applied from Berlin. She dropped some huge cash.

If true, this is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard! I took the MCAT in England years ago, and it's offered in Berlin too. One can take the MCAT in many other countries

To answer the OP, I was overseas this past season when I applied. It makes no difference. However, if you're applying to states which prefer a certain residency, make sure you put down your address as someplace in the state. For example, I am going to PCOM, so I put the address of my gf in PA. They screen applicants via their address at many schools so keep that in mind. Otherwise if you put a foreign or an APO/FPO/AE address, you will have problems TRUST ME.

Good luck!

I am currently living in Australia, the company that I work for moved me overseas for the year. I was just wondering if it might change my out of state or in state status, I am from Pennsylvania and applying to LECOM and PCOM as my top choices, just wondering how the schools will view me since I am out of the country at the moment. I took the MCAT in January 2008, would I assume that my MCAT scores are still "fresh"?

Seats were full and she had to do stuff while in the states anyway

She didn't anticipate doing study abroad and it was kind of an impulse thing. I actually know where the Berlin testing center is....it wasn't the nicest.

Europes great like that. I bet Venezuela didn't have an MCAT testing center in Caracas while I was living down there.

Well taking the MCAT whilst you're in the states visiting on some other business is fine...you made it sound like she flew to the US just to take the MCAT, at least that's the impression I got from your first post.

You'd have to sign up for the MCAT really late not to get a seat within a the span of a couple of months...for those of you planning on studying abroad, just make sure you sign up 3 months in advance and you should have no problem.

The MCAT have set standards for the conditions, so while maybe Berlin's center won't have the most up to date computers, you will test in a quite place. Let's no freak out the pre-meds travelling abroad 🙂 I mean, it's the MCAT so a basic screen, keyboard, and mouse work just fine

And Janikey, different places have different policies regarding the age of your MCAT, but yeah, you should be fine with 1.5 yr old scores. Good luck!

If you're working abroad for a company, that often does NOT mess with your state residency status, but you should check with your particular state and schools to be sure about your situation.

I'm Canadian and I got accepted into DO school. So if you're an American citizen you should be perfectly fine.

Go for it 👍

I was in Japan during the application process. It'll be fine. If you have friend or something in the USA that you can get to receive your mail, then it'll be even better though.
