Hello,
I'm a D3 at a state dental school and I'm fascinated by endodontics. Unfortunately, my GPA sucks and I'm in the bottom 1/3 of my class. Any tips on how I could become a competitive applicant? I'm definitely working on improving my GPA. Would doing a GPR be preferred over working in private practice?
Thanks!

AEGD/GPR + strong letters of recommendation. Then apply and see what happens. You may have to go into private practice after the residency if you don’t get into endo and practice for a few years. Then take the ADAT and apply with 2-5 years of experience.

You still have a year to increase your GPA and network. Join the AAE and go to the next annual meeting. Visit two or three programs next year and ask directors for advice to improve your application.

Question as of when to apply, I am a new D4 student and I have applied to GPRS and AEGDs between d3 and D4. When is the best time to apply for endo? At the end of my D4 year or after I’m already in my GPR/AEGD program?

Apply at the end of D4 and expect to not get accepted. Then apply again while you're in your GPR. Re-applicants have an advantage. Go for it!
