Hello everyone, first time posting here. Have a quick question. I am in the process of applying to PT schools, but I have not yet taken the GRE, will take it next month. Can I still submit primary or would have to wait until GRE scores are in?

Thank you, Arno

I'll try to find the link, but it says somewhere on there that you don't have to wait on your GRE, references, or hours to submit.

I tried to find it but did not see it. If that is the case then that is great news.

http://www.ptcas.org/WhatHappensNext/ It says there that you can add GRE scores at any time after you submit.

And it says in an email they sent me: APPLY EARLY!! Do NOT wait for PTCAS to receive all of your materials before you submit your application. It can take up to 4-5 weeks to process your file once it is "complete" (application, fee payment and all U.S.transcripts received).

I can almost swear I saw somewhere where it specifically said you don't have to wait for the GRE to submit, but I haven't found that yet.

On the official PTCAS facebook page:

what about gre scores should we wait to take the test before submitting application?

No need to wait. Submit your PTCAS application as soon as it's done. Arrange for your GRE scores to be sent to the correct code for each PT program you've selected as soon as your official scores are available. See the GRE code list at http://www.ptcas.org/ptcas/public/gre.aspx?navID=10737426788

You can BUT some schools like Samuel Merritt require scores to be submitted before esubmiting to their school. I'd contact schools especially with rolling admission

I, too, haven't taken the GRE yet. I was planning on taking it in late September since I haven't started studying yet, especially with starting a full-time job. Do y'all think late September is too late? If so, when is the latest you think I should take it by? Thanks!!

Some schools say you need to take before a certain time like August 1st for them to get it in time so I would check with the school and see what they say.

Some have the latest date posted you can take it in their admissions information (University of Washington does, November 15th). It can take a little over 2 weeks for ETS to post your full score (V/Q/AW) online and send your score to your designated schools, plus however much time it takes your recipient schools to actually receive and process the GRE score (could be right away, could be a couple weeks). Of course, sometimes things do get sent faster than expected, but it's best to plan for the maximum amount of red tape to be applied to the process.

So, if you have application deadlines that are due late November or later, late September should be fine. If they are any earlier than that, you may be cutting it close. I would just email the schools you are applying at and get a solid answer, all of the admission departments I have emailed with questions have responded very promptly.

Does anyone have any good advice about studying for the GRE? I have a Kaplan book, and I think my biggest struggle from this exam will be the verbal section. Any advice for someone whose weak point is vocabulary?

MAGOOSH GRE flascard app!!

I also thought verbal would be tough for me. When I took the GRE, I focused on doing really well for reading comp because that's the easiest for me, especially since it focuses on understanding more than knowing specific vocabulary.

If you have time and really want to memorize vocab, then I recommend the Magoosh vocab app and this book is great for funny definitions, but it doesn't put the words into a sentence: http://www.amazon.com/GRE-Vocab-Cap...406507269&sr=8-1&keywords=gre+vocab+mnemonics

I honestly memorized maybe 100 words and did much better than I expected to, probably because I did well on reading comp.

Also, read complex material daily. If you are used to reading difficult material then the reading comprehension part will boost your score. If you don't read much then it will be like having to jog when you never work out and you'll slog through it.

I was actually surprised by the reading comp passages, in that they weren't nearly as boring as the practice ones I read. There were several biology ones, so I was actually interested in what they said. Don't expect your test to be the same way, but it wasn't as awful as I expected. You should be prepared for the difficulty of the material though.
