I took one pre-req online as I travel often for work and well...that's that. I know it's not ideal for some schools, but will schools that do not accept online pre-reqs still give me a look or do they just outright reject you?

I would obviously have to retake the in person version if I were offered admission, but will an offer of admission even be possible? I guess I view it as courses not yet taken, but must be finished by matriculation....not sure how schools view this though..

I don't know the answer to your question. You are best off asking each school on your list if they will consider your application. MSAR might contain this information. If a school says it will not accept online pre-reqs it is likely you will be rejected rather than reviewed.

MSAR Online has the info you need. For example, NYU does NOT allow accept online course work for their recommended classes (they have no pre-reqs), but Duke will, for both required and recommended. My school accepts them as long as they're offered by an accredited university.

Does it actually say "online" on your transcript from that college? Because if it doesn't, then med schools will never know.

It does not specifically say online. However, the class was given by a university 1000+ miles from where I live, so I think it'll be obvious. Although, do you know how strict schools are in regards to online pre-reqs and/or how in depth schools look into whether a pre-req was taken online? If it's a brick and mortar university, are they going to start looking at dates, activities, etc to piece together whether or not it was in person or done online?

My (perhaps ignorant) opinion is, if it's a class given by a legit, accredited brick and mortar university, they're not going to pay any special attention to it. If it's university of phoenix or an unknown, perhaps unaccredited uni, that may draw attention....can anyone confirm?

@Goro @LizzyM - thank you both for your responses. I have purchased MSAR, but I noticed the vast majority of schools don't indicate one way or another they will accept online pre-reqs. That column is largely blank...

I don't think you have to worry about it right now. AFAIK, schools will still review your application even if you're missing a pre-req. If they determine that the online course is unacceptable, then any offer of admission will be contingent on your completing that course in-person. However, it shouldn't be a major problem.
