I am going to be applying to several SMP for next fall. I will be appling Feb 2009, although I won't be graduating from undergrad until June 2009. Is applying to these SMP before completing my undergrad a problem, or will it hurt my chances? My GPA is above a 3.5, which im told in competitive for SMP's.

No, I don't think that aspect will hurt your chances at all. Plenty of people in my SMP came right from undergrad. Did you take the MCAT yet?

I'm taking my MCAT in January 2009, waiting for the scores, then applying. Does that sound like a good plan?

That sounds fine to me. As long as you have it done by then it shouldn't slow down your application at all. Good luck with the MCAT and with the SMP programs.

How come you feel you need to do an smp with a gpa above 3.5?

yeah thats my question, why are you making the assumption that you need it..you have a great GPA and plus you havent taken the MCATs yet..so what if you score very nicely...you might as well apply that cycle coming up..and forgo the SMP idea

yeah i guess you guys are right - my MCAT score will really dictate how aggressively I pursue an SMP. I guess with this post I was thinking out loud, just trying to weigh my options. I feel with my GPA my MCAT score will really detirmine a lot.
