Applying without 90 hours of classes

Hello there,

Apologies for posting this in the re-apllicant forum but I wanted to ask for the opinion of you folks !!

I am from Scotland, have a Masters degree in computing. Decided 2 years ago (after moving to the US (dual nationality)) to make the attempt to get into med school.

I have 45 hours of undergrad classes, the usual prerequs (organic, bio, etc), a 4.0 GPA and 29N MCAT.

However, I am worried a lot of schools wont look at me because I dont have the required 90 hours of US undergrad courses. I will be applying primarily in Texas and received emails from all 7 med schools saying they need the 90 hours, but will consider other work I have done, but not strongly :-(

So to my questions: Do you know of anyone who has succeeded in entering a US school without the required 90 hours of classes? Can you suggest any schools in the US that may be more lenient on these requirements?

How do you have a master's degree and only 45 credit hours? Did you take all your classes in Scotland? Could you not transfer the hours to an institution here? That would be the route I would take - try to get your courses transferred to an institution here in the states and then apply. If not, then I don't think there's a lot to do but take the other hours required. I go to the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Tx, and I am the only person here without at least a bachelor's degree (there are several with masters and I think even a couple with Ph.Ds). Of course, if you can get your previous degrees to transfer, this is all moot.

yup, did all masters/undergrad hours in Scotland.

Just got an email back from TMDSAS saying they wont look or consider any coursework taken outside of US or Canada.

Oh well, Caribbean here I come then....or maybe Ireland 🙂 Both appear to be as expensive as each other...
