Hi all,

I am looking for advice. I have my application completed but I am wondering if I should submit until after I get my MCAT which is September 5 or should I submit it now to a throw away school and submit to other schools after the MCAT? I am not sure how this works. Everyone says to be complete by Labor day. Does that mean for primary?

Would this simply be too late for MD or DO schools? My state school told me it would not be too late as September 24 is the latest MCAT they will take. I do not know if this is true for the rest of the schools.

It is very late for MD but might be OK for DO. It also depends on your other stats. If you're exemplary everywhere else (and end up doing very well on MCAT), then you'll be able to stand out more easily against the thousands of applicants you're competing with that late in the game.

I agree with @silverqueen16, it depends on how well you're thinking your MCAT will turn out. If you're a very competitive applicant, I'm sure some schools would be more likely to consider you more closely, even later on. A lot of schools accept on a rolling basis, so there may very well be some spots left.

In terms of submitting, I think it also depends on confident in your score you are. If you're applying this cycle no matter what, then go ahead and submit! But if you're still deciding between submitting and taking a gap year, then maybe hold off until you've got your score and you can decide whether to apply then.

Best of luck!

This will be my only MCAT score. I am wanting to submit this year. Do I submit to a throw away school or to all the schools I want to apply to now?

I think you should just apply to the throwaway school in order to get the primary verified. You don't know for sure how you did on the test, and if you apply and find out you scored lower than expected (and don't want to go through with the secondary), you will end up being a reapplicant for those schools the next cycle.

Complete by Labor Day means the entire app (primary, secondaries, and LORs) is at the school by Labor Day...this gives you an early advantage for MD. Otherwise, you're starting to push it. The DO cycle is longer so you'd be on time for that.
