Hi,

I think these questions are asked in indirect ways several times before but if ppl who have information offhand and could answer them or link me to the answers that would be appreciated..

Am a canadian applicant - stats 3.6 cGPA and MCAT yet to know..but expecting around a 30..

As for reputation and best match list..which is the best school to apply since already am at a little disavantage for not being US citizen plus happening to be a caribbean student?

The other thing.... I dont want some thing exhorbitantly impossible money wise..what are my options?

Also I graduate this upcoming year..so when would be the best time to apply if I want to continue right after undergrad ie for the 2007 cycle.

Could you suggest the best schools to apply to in relation to my stats and best in general as well..

Thanks
A

If you get any MCAT above a 26, why are you applying offshore?

Well because 26 does not really make it easy to get accepted to most schools in the US, why would you think so? 3.6 and 26 are okay stats and many have that or better applying so Caribbean is a good back up.🙄

Apply D.O. Plus, if you get above a 28, you wil; have a fine chance at MD. I just don't understand the point of researching back-ups before you know if you need them.

Thanks guys for the input..am seeking a backup because I am out of state for all US schools since am Canadian ..

Also am not sure if DO is a better option or if with these stats i could possibly get into any US MD school...would it be worth the wait ? I am not aware as whats considerd competitive so I want to explore the caribbean option and get input for it from ppl who are more well versed with the system...

Just that your stats are not good enough for a "lock" on a US medschool and you are not a US citizen so it makes it rougher to get accepted.

I would apply to schools in the US who take people with lower stats like yours and also the Big 4 in the caribbean, you will be accepted in the Caribbean, DO? I dunno it is still not readily accepted outside the US, Heck the UK jst approved DO as a Doctor in 2004. So there is a biased outside the USA for DO. I would stick to MD in my opinion.:luck:

Well....if you get that 30 on the MCAT, you'll probably have a decent shot for a US school I would surmise. If not, Carib MD isn't a bad option, but be careful. There have been numerous threads on this issue, but in general, if you really desire a highly competitive field for residency (which you may or may not know at this point), a Caribbean school may not be the best option. I don't know about the whole "DO vs MD" debate (and frankly, I think it's quite silly), but I believe DO's still get competitive residencies with greater ease than a Carib MD. As far as a bias outside the US for DO, who really cares? If you practice in the US, it won't matter.

Hope you get that 30 (or above)!! :luck:
